So we have: Minimal/Balanced/Large stockpiling policy.

Minimal - Player can reach the max stockpile faster than Balanced and Large, I'd assume. Therefore boosting pop growth a lot faster, but with a risk of losing the stockpile faster should there be deficit in food production.

Balanced - Player can reach the max faster than Large.

Large - Slowest but safest.

Even with all that, I am still failing to see the critical use of the policies, because the pop growth bonus seems to be tied to the number of pops you have + how much excess you can produce.

Wouldn't it also be good if Large stockpile policy gave 10% pop growth boost during excess production (on top of the current calculation of excess+empire pop number); balanced give 5% and small give 0% bonus?

Just a thought.

Im wondering if some ethos types have opinions on the policy.
In essence, does your society live in the now or is it concerned with the long term as well?

Honestly if this doesn't have an opinion effect on pops in some manner, then I dont see much of a reason not to have the big one and then make as many trade deals as you can for monthly food to boost your pop growth if you can find someone willing to make the trade.

Yeah i agree its pointless to set higher stockpile and risk being outperformed in growth and thus in economy. If you take the disadvantage of increased pop growth kicking in later you should have a reward at the end. Its not like minerals that you can stockpile and still have a huge advantage.

As long as minrals are not spent you pay no upkeep but it never goes missing. If you have the production capacity you can pump out a huge fleet in no time when required.
With food the focus should not be on stockpiles but instead on raw production. As long as you have more than you need you are fine BUT at war it could be disrupted.

Way i imagine it is that food is transported from planets with food to others without. At time of peace it makes no difference but once someone blocks these routes planets start starving and you lose a lot of your mineral/energy/research production. Unless ofc you didnt take benefit of the new system and set up every planet like in previous patches.

To encourage setting up industrial hubs and research centers planets that focus on 1 specific production should have a planetary modifier added with an edict.
SO you play safe and not risk starvation or you go greedy and actually set up a fleet big enough to be on the offensive and defend your territory at the same time. Which should be doable with the specialised bonuses.
