There should be a food production factor in HOI3. For example, certain areas of certain countries produce much more food than other areas in those countries. If that country lacked that area, they would not be able to feed their population as well (soldiers get priority to be fed). Lack of food would decease manpower growth and eventually cause dissent and loss of soldier morale. Countries would be able to trade food. This would be important for food importing states like Germany and Britain, and it would add another aspect to naval blockades and Sub warfare.
This would also help invasions of various countries, for example, most of the Soviet food is produced in the Ukraine, German food is produced in former Prussia, USA and Canada food is mostly produced on the produced on the praries, Agentina food on the Pampas, Chinese food in east China and by the rivers, Japanese and British food in the south of those countries, Italian food in the Po Valley etc. etc.

Just some food for thought...

Yeah it would be nice for detail. But I don't think any country really had trouble providing enough food in WW2 so it is kinda pointless. Supply is supposed to be generic ammo/food/other so there's not THAT much point to do it aside from extra depth. Once you add food you might as well add all kinds of other stuff. I'm all for it but I think paradox wants to keep it centered on the war and not managing the economics of the country.

After the loss of Ukraine, Soviet Union has to rely on USA's Lend Lease to feed its soldiers. Nearly 5 500 000 tons of food has been sent to SU during the LL period. Starting '43, 12 millions Soviet soldiers receive a daily 500 g military ration which was produced in the US.

I guess, this is not nothing, and can be reproduced in-game. Supply do the job today, but loosing Ukraine or not doesn't change anything. Food resource could be in game to give back some interest to some province/region, as we have Baku for oil, we can have Ukraine for food, and so on. Food would be here to feed manpower.

Maybe supplies should actually be a resource as well?
In HoI2, it is just made from IC, but what if a supply (or food) resource would be needed? It would produced in provinces just like energy, oil, metal and rares. Possible it could be increased by building a farm or something like that.

HOI and all the games developed by paradox are MUCH MUCH more than just a basic war game! Yes you are right food should be a resource. With still keeping consumer goods.

War is not just about killing the enemy. Or destroying cities. We have grown past the genecidal hordes of the past. Controling a countries resources (such as food actualy is) is a way to bring that goverment to its knees with out wiping out the population.

I think that such things a food stuffs and fissionable material should be added resounces.

I agree with this idea Jaydot we should have a Food resource and it doesn't have to involve starvation or civilians and the like.

When you run out of any of the three resources, Metal, Energy and Rare materials you'll lose a lot of your IC due to lack of resources and begin building a surplus. When a nation such as Germany and Russia runs out of Food, the Region producing that amount of food is cut low enough to represent the population is on rations and the Manpower and divisions will equally suffer overall.

And Germany had plenty of food shortages throughout the war to represent Hitler's incentive to conquer the Ukrainian land and foremost keep his armies fed and supplied in Operation Barbarossa.

Supplies should represent the munitions, canned food, spare parts, electronics like radios and goggles, cetera.

Food should be a resource that is connected to Supplies and Consumer Goods.

Looking at the alpha-screenshots, then the resources are the same as in HoI2 so

energy
metal
rare materials
oil
supplies
money

Not true, apart from the Soviet Union having to import American food, Britain only had a few weeks food reserve and relied on Canadian food imports (the point of the German Uboat campaign was to starve Britain), Germany became very low on food later in the war, even though it could feed some of the people, others were starved. Once western Europe was liberated, they were fed partially by USA. I'm sure there are other examples

Don't forget the Dutch Famine of 1944. The Swedes where able to give some relieve before the Netherlands was liberated.

approximately 10,000 people died.

Yeah but it wasn't to the point where populations and armies were devastated. There's not much point in representing food specifically if there's no SEVERE consequences for not having enough.

I think making supply a province resource would be good enough.

Why not just make running out of food increase dissent faster to simulate bread lines and such? Wasn't Germany counting on the capture of Ukraine causing the same effect on the USSR as it had on Russia during WWI?

I don't know about food as a resource but this time around I hope MOST provinces actually have something of value. HOI 2 had WAYYYYYYYYYYYY to many provinces that had nothing of value in them.

90% of all soldiers who died in World war 2 were reserves in other words civilians. If we pay to much attention to links to genocide there shouldn`t be HOI in the first place. The same way one can IMAGINE that strategic bombing actually falls on residentual area link it to civilian bombing and thus forbid planes to bomb targets.Or infantry occupying a province link it to mass killings of civilian so at the end no province would be occupyable. If you encircle enemy army you could link its dissappearance with annihilation does this mean we can`t have encirclements?Crushing a infantry division with tank division can be associated with rolling over (you know what) does this mean it should be forbidden for tanks to attack infantry?

World war 2 was not a gentlemen war,if one gets too preoccupied with making it such he should probably just took another conflict cause there won`t be any kind of battle, unit or ressource to use which couldn`t be associated with civilian killings.

There has been a misunderstanding though i accept the jugement.
I never complained or even wanted the introduction of such things i just pointed out that ONE`s evil brain can always IMAGINE things as it wished and that food ressource doesn`t need to be excluded only becouse someone would assossiate it with civilians.

There's no misunderstanding. You should keep that association to yourself. It has no place on these boards, as stiuplated in the rules. Now please, no further posts from you in this thread. I'll answer your PM.

Back on topic folks.
