Any ideas if food producing buildings will chance in 1.5?
Now food production will be empire based instead of planet based some buildings (like the orbital farm and the clinic) will be less useful.
(I used them to get low food planets or new colonies a boost)

The Planetary Capitol will now produce Power and Unity, rather then food and minerals.
Frontier Clinic is still usefull, for the habitability boost. Wich increase both growth and max happiness (potentially very important with the new Faction based happines). If anything, habitability will become more important now. Local food in general can help, to avoid disruptions and better deal with growing populations.

The Orbital Farm could be turned into a planetary bonus. "Food Terminal" or something like that.

I'm interested in what happens to the level five farms will it still be restricted to empire capital? I imagine a lot of people will want to get rid of the farms on their capital and replace them with energy or research buildings once they are able to shift food production off world.

I would still build at least one Farm per planet. The bigger the better. Could even see myself using a Frontier Hopsital and Farm - for habitability and real food.

Food imports are nice and all. So is a dedicated Food world to speed up growth (on new colonies in particular).
But what if the planet getting the imports is blokaded?
Or what if you loose access to the food planet?
Or what about the pops simply "outgrow" the Food planets production?
Too much uncertainty to rely exclusively on a single food planet, at least for me.

Personally I'm planning on having a few agriworlds to feed the Republic and lessen the risk of blockade induced starvation. Trying to decide if I want them as core worlds or out on the frontier though. From a security standpoint its probably smarter to have the agriworlds deep in the core, but thematically I like the idea of backwater farming colonies on the frontier. Though another thought occurs to me do you suppose that they will add a new sector focus so that you could instruct you sectors to gather food? I guess they would have to but you never know.

I am totally expecting it. Food focus with redevelop and "respect tile resources" off would be the obviuos choice. Ideally if you got a sector full of a specific species.

Most planets have at least one +2 food natural tile. Making that one into a farm seems very space-effective and provides you some back-up, even if you outsource further food production to agrar-worlds.

Albeit I could see a lot of people going full RP on the mechanic and making few dedicated greenplanets with very little farms on their industrial worlds.

Is research taxed?
The premise of the question is flawed. Research is by definition not "useable locally". Unlike the Food/Mineral/Energy (FME) resources.
Research progress is automatically added to the soceity wide pool of knowledge. There is no point to "tax" knowledge to force that.

I started a new game of Stellaris, and I am now wishing we already had global food. You have to switch tabs just to see how much your food surplus is! Once we have global food, all we need to do is look at the total +X food production to see how fast everything is growing.

I am also thinking about the change to planetary capitals. Less food and minerals are probably good, as they make developing food tiles much more important. I am wondering how the more energy / less minerals will play out as well. Now that food is global, do you want your first colonist growing food, or producing energy and unity?

Now that food is global, do you want your first colonist growing food, or producing energy and unity?
Unity is by far the rarest resource in the game and the colony already gives you a penalty.
Plus the developed planets with thier higher Tier Farms will be better at producing it anyway.
You still propably want a Frontier Clinic or Paradise dome as early as possible.
