I've been following CIMs around one of my cities recently using the First Person Camera. What a nifty mod for which I thank the author for creating.
It's been quite interesting seeing where they're coming from and where they're going. In the process I can confirm they do in fact use public transportation and combine with other modes of transportation to get from one place to another.
Take CIM Taylor Smith for example. He lives in Westside on the outer edge of my Cobanna Beach map - The wonderful custom terrain of a tropical atoll with mountains. I clicked on a CIM as he was heading down the street from his house in Westside. The information said he was going to the "Giga Shop" There are of course many Giga Shops on the map so it was interesting to see which one he was going to.
FPC put me in view of the tree lined street with parked cars in driveways. He crossed the street and headed to the train station where he pushed through the walls due to no entrance or two-sided faces. (This is quite common with many assets including road tunnels, cars, buses, and trains and rightly so because we're not supposed to be inside the vehicles!) He was now on the inbound platform waiting for the train.
The silver line train came in and he got on. We then stopped at some in between stations then his first destination at Garnet Hills. At Garnet Hills is a junction with the rail line to Cobanna Beach with a 4-track station forming the wye-legs with the Cobanna Beach line and the east-west line Taylor was on originally. He got off his train, walked over the footbridge, and on to the platform at the big station.
This time he took the green line train. This stopped at Bayside, Umber Hills, Parkway, and then Cobanna Beach Terminal. He got off at Parkway where there's a metro line which runs north south to and from the waterside airport and into the downtown. He took the metro three stops took a tram then walked three blocks to the Giga Store destination he was heading in.
Other CIMs have gone on similar journeys. A female tourist CIM visiting the city way on the other side of the map, drove to the train station, took a train several stops, got off the train at Umber Hills where she switched to the Metro to the waterfront and airport, upon which she then took an ocean liner off map.
This is quite interesting and quite fun, besides being able to see the city from a CIM's point of view.
