Be cool if you could send a spy to find out troop movements, stationing, readiness before attacking. I know you can use the cheat nofog, but is not the same...Germany knew more or less exactly what the French had, and where it was stationed. Be nice to send out spies and gather intelligence.

Maybe it could be added as a tech, the further you develop the tech tree, the further and more accuratly you can see into your enemies and neighbours nations...like a sort of spying and counter spying, espionage etc etc....

You can use aircraft to gather limited intelligence on where troop-stacks are located. It's not a very efficient way to do it, but it works sometimes.

Maybe a recognicance airunit of some kind could be usefull?

not to mention the russians were fed info by someone. The orders were in Stalins hands before the german commanders received theirs. I site the enormous soviet preempitve strike at the overflowrrd airfields hours before the kursk battle was to start. Something in the order of 700 fighters and tacs and cas mysteriously appear over the helpless bombers on the runways. Only the extraordinary skill and quick reaction of a German fighter squadron ( and the rather poor organization of soviet air, ecspecially at offensive ops) saved the damage to any bombers. They actually took off right on schedule. The flow of info was undeniable. Although I don't really have a good suggestion on how to implement it.

Investments in intelligence should increase the surprise chances for all your units and reduce them for enemies, increase chances of stealing blueprints, increase chances for coups, ...

Isn't this called encryption/decryption? Like the techs? They should make them more powerful, but a spy just doesn't make sense.

How about having the first tier giving you +1 line of sight on borders. For example if you had the level 1 espionage tech you could see 2 spaces from your borders. But only the units right next to you could have full intelligence, the units deeper into enemy territory would just tell you like 1-3, 4-9, and 10+ as intelligence without telling you the exact strength of the unit.

Also i liked the idea for an 0SS, Skorzeny, Commando, etc. type unit. It would deploy like Garrison forces and couldn't retreat in battle, but it would be totally invisible. It also couldnt be reinforced. Say for each unit deployed dissent goes up for some formula depending on belligerance, society structure, etc. IT would be tilted so that closed highly belligerant societies would be extremely hard hit and open peaceful nations would be only lightly affected. The only way to stop these commandos would be to use garrison units in anti-partisan duty. However these units would have a small max strength like 1 but only have a 5% chance per day of being engaged by the garrison.

Commandos really can't operate behind the lines for an extended period of time; the british tried that in Burma and it didn't work. Commandos can secure bridges/reduce river crossing penalties, partially blow up infrastructures, increase chances for special events in combat, reduce org for units to zero to reflect headquarters attack, etc.

Spy warfare and inteligence gathering must be improved, however I'm afraid it's rather a suggestion for hoi3. Too much changes in the hard code here, it would be a whole new chapter of the game.

What in my opinion could be relatively easily added to hoi2 are air reconaissance missions, which could be assigned to fighters. Bigger planes wouldn't be very suitable anway for that.

good discussion on spies/espionage

Like this thread. Good thoughts so far. Def. feel some sort of espionage tech or added effect from the encryption techs should be added or maybe as a component of the Airborne/Marines inf. techs. This could be done outside of direct player influence. Higher spies/commando/espionage could lead to higher level of partisan activity in nearby conquered territory and their ability to add more knowledge of enemy movement, strength etc. Can show progress by going from ? # of units at start to number of units est. to more concrete details all the up to organization and leader names etc.
