Why isn't this a thing in the game yet? Sure you have the 10 days/30 days "save" so that you won't lose time between focuses and researches compared to other players/countries, but you still have to click back & forth everytime a focus tree or research is completed. Sometimes this is annoying.

I know you don't always have a predefined strategy, sometimes your strategy changes based on the actions of other players/countries, but when it doesn't, and especially at the beginning of the game, it's very convenient to have a queue for focuses and research. So that you won't have to always go back & forth. It's also worth pointing out that this is completely optional, whoever wants to play without queues can simply not use them.

It doesn't have to be a big one, maybe a queue of 2 extra focuses and of 6 extra researches. The moment you complete a focus/research, the next one in line is automatically placed. If you want to remove a focus/research from the queue you simply right-click it, or you can drag it higher or lower on the priority list.

Just make sure that every focus/research needs to have its prerequisites either researched, in research or above them in queue.

Another huge advantage of this, beside not having to go back to the focus and research tabs as often, is that you can go back to the focus and research tabs whenever you want and change your strategy. You no longer have to wait until a focus is complete to select another one, you can change the next focus in queue right in the middle of the focus.

And while the 10 days/30 days "save" is good, I think everyone has missed the timeline once in a while. With a queue, you no longer have to worry about that. It's hard to miss the timeline for the focus when you have a queue of 210 days and a period between 70 - 210 days to pick the next focus in queue, adding 70 more days to the queue.

With research I think this can be done fairly easy, as the game allows even ahead of time research. But with the focuses this is going to be a bit more complex, beside checking for prerequisites, the game also has to check whether the focus is available, and warn the player to remove it from the queue if the focus suddenly becomes unavailable for some reason, and if the focus is unavailable when its time to do it, to have it removed instead of making it. But overall I think it's worthwhile as it leads to a lot more comfort for the player.

It's probably too much for this patch, but hopefully something like this can be added in the patch that comes with the new DLC.

I dunno about this... On one level, I can see the appeal of setting your research and NF strategy right from the start, since most of us choose the same projects and the same NFs in the same order every time we play... but clicking on research and choosing NFs is like the only thing we have to do to pass the time in the pre-war buildup period of 1936-39. If I could put everything in a queue at the start, I guess that would give me some time to catch up on Netflix or make a sandwich before the various wars kick off, but I don't feel like having 45 minutes to an hour to watch the game play itself would improve my HoI4 experience.

There are better clicker games than HOI4 national focuses. It would be a nice feature.

Queues for focuses and research would make the game dramatically more user-friendly.
Particularly during peace time on max speed, you constantly have to pause the game.

Further QoL improvement: colour indicator for the category tab in the tech screen.
Green: in this category >=1 tech that can be researched without penalty
Yellow: >=1 tech available, but only ahead of time
Red: 0 tech can be researched

That's like saying:
- Why do we need a 15 minutes walk towards our baggage in the airport?
- Because if we would get our baggages in the same location, we'd get bored for 15 minutes.

Which is a fair point, but I don't think extra micromanagement is the best solution to this. In the same way I believe there are more fun ways to keep yourself occupied at the airport than having to make a 15 minutes walk. As @STABBY5 pointed out, there are better clicker games than hoi4's national focuses & research.

Instead of thinking that you have nothing to do in the game at that time so you need the point & click, this of it like gaining time instead. If you have less micromanagement you can continuously stay on speed 5 all the time, both in singleplayer and multiplayer, until the war starts. You save more time in real life and in the game.

And when the war actually beings and you have a lot of things to do. You won't constantly come back & forth for every research and focus, you can focus a lot more on the fights and diplomacy. So you save time both at peace and at war.
