You joke, but I actually would love to see a fully fleshed out Middle East. Not counting the countries that I think will get reworked in the upcoming Balkans DLC and what I assume will be an Italy/Soviet Union DLC, the starting countries I want to see get new focus trees the most are Iraq, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. If they can fit Afghanistan in there too that would be great.

Liechtenstein world conquest !

but seriously, the problem with focus trees for a lot of the minor countries is that historically they did not really do much, either because they weren't involved in the wars at all, or were invaded very early on. So you get like 3-4 years of historically-researchable actions, and then it's all speculative alt-history.

Like, Luxembourg, there's the period up to the German invasion, where there's some history to research to find "what ifs" decisions, in say 1937, the politicians decided to do X instead of Y. But after 1940, it's all pretty much complete guesswork.

And in order to get things right, to get the nuances of pre-war Luxembourgian politics, requires a lot of research effort on the part of the game's designers, finding appropriate portraits and news photographs etc.

For an end-result that is almost certainly not going to satisfy everyone - historical-mode players wouldn't be too keen on Paradox spending dev-time on pure alt-history, for example. And for people who aren't playing that country - they might not even notice that Luxembourg has a focus tree. So for many people it would look like a questionable allocation of resources.

It's a thorny issue.

I wouldn't mind if they did it with a middle east pack. Saudi Arabia. Iran. Afghanistan. Iraq.

I hope they make them good. Make them minors who can become majors. Will be great.

And the community is mostly alt history lovers. So they wouldn't go wrong making strong minors

Yep, as essential as Panama and Ethiopia!

You jest, but at least Ethiopia has a connection to the war and the combatants. You might even argue that Ethiopia is the first casualty of WW2, and there was some fighting there during the actual war. The East African Campaign cost Italy almost 300,000 troops.

I could envision a focus tree that has a similar theme to Free France with mechanics for liberation and Vichy like focus tree for use while under the boots of the Italians.

I don't think it's actually worth the time and effort, but at least it's a part of the war. ;)

I jested just ever so slightly - Panama and Ethiopia are both important, the former because canal control was vital to the US war effort and the latter - Well, what you said. Afghanistan could have been equally important as a possible connection between USSR and commie Raj or something.
It's maybe not top priority, but can be done once the more prominent countries are done.
See how that one works both ways?

I personally don't mind if every country gets a tree eventually, as I'm not the biggest fan of the generic tree. I also think every country having its own tree is the kind of thing that might keep sales up. If I were a bean counter at Paradox, that's something I would keep in mind.

I also think that there are enough weird and special cases for various odd things that happened during WW2 to justify getting all the primary combatants done first. Brazil before Panama. Finland and the Winter War before Afghanistan. However, I'm aware that doing countries by regions as opposed to war participation helps keep trees sane. It wouldn't make sense to create a Finnish tree and then say "Screw you!" to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Even if Sweden was neutral, her geographic placement means that trees for combatants like Norway and Finland would require a tree for Sweden.

Hmm, I always thought (Northern) China (aka Manchukuo) was the first casualty of WW2.

I actually made a thread where I collect and post information on Afghanistan in ww2.
In sum they were quite an interesting country, although information is at times sparse.
They have a lot of potential and militarily they were more formidable than the Netherlands or Portugal (having 7000 meter high mountains helps).
I hope to see them along Iraq, Iran and Saudi-Arabia.

Hmm, I always thought (Northern) China (aka Manchukuo) was the first casualty of WW2.

You could certainly make that case. Of course, Manchukuo already has a focus tree, so even if you want to push the point that Manchukuo was the first "conquest" of WW2, Ethiopia is still in line for a focus tree. :)

I'd love a goos swedeish tree. With a part of the tree to reclaim old borders of swedish empire.

Which on top of the Nordic empire formable means a really good nation possibility.possibility
