Given how useful they were during the war, I find it a little disappointing that they don't appear to be in the game.

Ideally, they would have some special mechanism, like being able to operate from coastal provinces without air-base, but even simply them as a dedicated ASW/patrol aircraft (with possibility to use them for transport and naval attack among other things) would be preferable to not having them at all.

But keep in mind that they were also very important for spotting and killing subs in the atlantic ocean. So they were an important part of the battle in the atlantic!!!

I also think Flying Boats comes under the heading 'Not enough time to fit into the game'. There are many weapon systems that had a big impact during WWII, but fitting them all into the base game would take too much time. Now I am hopeful that modders can request a game mechanic that like that Bki proposes.

And the H6K as a long range (6½ thousand km) four-engined bomber or troop & supply transport as well as recon.

In a pinch, you could even load them up with a pair of torpedoes and use them as NAVs!

But it's not just a simple matter of saying "oh look! Flying boats. They can operate from any reasonably sheltered coast or big river."

They need the same infrastructure & support that any other aircraft for the mission they are to be used for. That usually means either an airfield with workshops & hangers & machine shops & munitions stores & & & & & or... a support ship. And really, flying boats & their support ships go hand-in-hand. It’s not really practical to operate them without what, effectively, provides the same support as a CV.

Granted, you could never launch a flight of 4-engined strategic bombers, not even from a Midway (I don’t think you could launch a B-17 from a Forrestal) and they certainly couldn’t land back-on. They’re a different kind of unit & I’d love to see them in the game.

And PBY Catalinas found the japanese carriers at midway, not boarded planes.
One could say that it is a grand scale strategy game, but I think the map is big enough to give them akso a chance, they're also produced in reasonable numbers....

Does this mean that when we research doctrine upgrades, existing units will need new equipment/supplies for the upgrade to become effective? I am assuming that new equipment/supplies will be treated like ammo.
I would imagine that most doctrine improvements does not require gear as such, but would rather give a bonus to whatever stat(s) in question ?
