Chapter XI: Florentian Dominance outside Europe?

medici.gif

Persia, May 15, 1518

"Your Majesty, there is someone here to see you.
He claims to be from the Dukal Court of Florence."
"I hate the Duke of Florence, but on the other hand, I do want to know what he is planning... Let him in."

A man, followed by two guards who are carrying a gigantic package enters the room.

Shah of Persia: "Well?!"
Messenger: "I bring you a gift, from his Majesty the King of Italy, Grandduke of Florence."
Shah: "A gift!! How nice!! What is it??"
Messenger opens the package.
Messenger: "This, Your Majesty, is a statue of the Great Leader of Persia, you. It is made by Michelangelo, the greatest artist in the world!"
The statue truly is beautifull, and the Persian Shah looks at it like it was God Himself.
"It... I... You... Florence... I am speachles..."
"Do you like it?"
"..."
"Well sire, I think that means yes. Now we have an offer for you."
"It's so beautifull... and the best of it is that it is ME!! huh? offer? yes what?"
"Are you interested in exchanging maps with us?"
"Why? You don't have colonists and you already know all of Europe!"
"That is a secret."
"I see, well then, what about NO?"
"Why?"
"GET OUT!!!"

A lot of other gifts are sent to Persia, without much result.
Untill that beautifull day...
The relations with Persia were good again, and suddenly Persia did want to exchange maps.
"On one condition: that you join the Persian alliance"
"We accept"

The map did not show much colonizable places, most of them were harsh and impossible to be colonized.
BUT, our great friend Spain, knew much more of the world.
They knew 245 land/sea spots, while we only knew 50, that they didn't know.
But still they accepted, we will never know why, I guess...
The map showed strange white spots, but a lot of land was discovered, and ready to be conquered, by us...

TO BE CONTINUED.

Good job w/ the maps, I usually do that at the beginning of the game (when the Muslims don't hate me) and then bounce Spain and Portugal's maps off of each other until they hate me. It gives me quite a head start.

Chapter XII: Florentian Expansion and the new Grandduke...

medici.gif

Royal Palace of Spain, July 15, 1518

Now that the maps were exchanged, Tuscany could not do much with them, since they don't have one colonist.
That is why, the Tuscan Grandduke asked the King of Spain, his brother-in-law, to get some colonists.
The Spanish, who had hundreds of colonist expedition wanted to accept, but they did not want Florence to claim territories which might be of good use for Spain without paying a lot for that.
The two Heads of States came to an agreement: Spain sends 6 colonist expeditions to the Florentian Palace and Florence may send them to where they want, but Florence pays 250 goldcoins for the colonists.

Palace of the Grandduke, Florence, September 1518

"Greetings! I am the Grandduke of Florence, and I ask you to claim territories for Florence all over the world.
Remember, do not hesitate to kill off natives if they endanger more then a square inch of Florentian Territory, after all, they are still heathen animals."

A couple of months later, messages returned from all over the world.
Florence had established 3 trade posts in Africa. One trade post in Central America, and a colony in the North of America, near French possesions.
Unfortunatly, we have recieved a message from France, that they heard rumors of a Florentian expedition being killed by natives, nearby their territory.
A couple of weeks later, we recieved another message from France that the bodies of the colonists were found.
But still, Florence was a great power now.
Another plan of Machiavelli had worked.
Though, we don't think Spain will allow to give us colonists a second time...
We need to think of another way to get colonists.
We have heard rumor that there is an exiting new religion founded in Germany called Reformation, which attracts colonists...

Florence, March 18, 1519

Our great leader has passed away.
His grandson, Guilo di Medici will be his succesor

Questions for my fans...

Question I.

Should I conquer Hafid Empire?
I just have to cross the sea.
They don't have much allies, and if I annex them, the Catholics won't hate me, since Hasfid is Muslim.
It would expand my power in Africa and the Muslim world greatly...
Historically, it was Italian (as Lybia) too...

Question II.

Should I convert to Reformed (if I can do that...) to get more colonists or wait for counter-reformation?

I think you should better wait until Counter-Reformation, cause if you get Reformed your provinces will rebel and more of that shit!!!

Don't do an insanely unrealistic conversion, just go CR Catholic. In the meantime, keep buying your colonists. Or, build a shipyard (+1 colonist/year).

Yes, go annex the Hafsids, it's a great opportunity. Who knows, maybe you could grab Algiers & Morroco too.

I also think that you should not change religion for just colonists. You would be more busy with revolts, and you won't have time to use the colonists. Also I think that you should buy from colonists from France nexe time.
