Preface |
I almost finished reading The Open Sea book from J. G. Manning, a recommendation from @Cagallo . I want to post a review as soon as I finish reading it. In this book, the author emphasizes climate and the environment as drivers of political and social changes in the era of Imperator: Rome.
Observation |
Beyond the odd volcano, and storms (sea and desert) there is no much effect of climate and environment in the game. Some mods have incorporated seasons for food yields, something that is commendable and makes the game more interesting. However, there are many other things that could be implemented in the game, one of them being floods.
Suggestion |
As described in the wiki, floods will occur in territories with rivers, lakes or oceans, with water escaping its original boundaries or by the accumulation of rainwater. Depending on the strength of the floods, they will provide an increased local monthly food modifiers or cause destruction of buildings in cities and settlements located in those territories and the dead of POPs.
Implementation |
Floods will follow documented floods in the river Nile* and other known areas and random in other rivers, estuaries, lakes and flat low laying areas (areal) that are not documented.
Their periodicity will be historical and not too often.
Players will be able to limit their effect by building cities away from flooding areas or by having the proper infrastructure. For example, the player could harness the river Nile annual flooding through the management of a network of dikes, canals and enclosures.
*The annual flood of the Nile river was variable with insufficient or excessive floodwater often coincident with famine and mortality.
