In my current playthrough, I have a ship from an event which of course cannot merge with my fleet forces. I'm currently in the middle of a war and this ship is in an enemy system along with one of my other fleets. All the sudden, that ship and my fleet have begun trying to auto-merge which again they cannot do because it's an event ship.

They will not obey any commands because anytime I try to tell them to move or attack they immediately cancel the command and sit there next to each other trying to merge over and over. So basically, the event ship and fleet are completely stuck and I'm unable to do anything.

It happened out of nowhere because they'd been in enemy systems together before without issue.

I've tried to find ways to solve it via different commands, fleet manager, fleet stance, etc. but I can't figure it out. Does anyone know what the issue is here and how to solve it?

I suppose I could just disband my entire fleet and rebuild it and just never have it in a system near the event ship, but obviously that would be quite expensive and time consuming and would basically mean I'd lose the war I'm in.

I experienced that too with (awakened) Marauder fleets (3.2 - yes modded - as I only play modded - and appears only sometimes). As said, the fleets do nothing anymore but tick every time (AI empires: even if you take control of the AI, they did not stop this).
So (modded or not) it should be definitely a bug.
PS: the hint from OldEnt solves this.

Ty! I assume that's a console command?

Yes, select fleet and then open console and paste. You can drop a save here but since the issue is resolved and it's modded I see no point.

So (modded or not) it should be definitely a bug.
This usually happens when fleet queue_action was issued to merge fleets which are invalid or no longer valid for merge, as the first part of the command is to follow fleet, and then merge when in close proximity. There was a bug with StarNet specifically for this but this has been reported and sorted ages ago (StarNet and StarTech merges AI fleets).
