Haha, nonono, that lost its edge ages ago.:D
At the time I got to battleships, 1000 units of energy "traded" for +1 relation with basically any faction, while minerals were around twice to three times the price. Now I am wayyy further down the game, everyone, as said, has less than -1000 relation with me, so even emptying a complete stockpile of resources (which would be bonkers to waste in any case...), would only trade me around 200 relation maximum.:p And that is assuming it hasn't gotten worse with the ratio, which, ...oh wait, I actually did generously refund nearly 2000 minerals to one of the tax paying enslaved empires at my borders, which were so nice to come to my help to intercept a meteor who netted me 1000 anyway. That was worth 3 relationship only, so it is of course worse.

I used to do this a lot at the beginning stages, when 1000 energy could actually buy me +10 to +20, and access to something still. Newly met empires who didn't know of my genocides yet could easily be swayed by 2000 exawattions to be open to further trade deals, at which I set up some energy for mineral exchanges, and also gained border passage for some time.
Everybody knows now, and it will take 1000 years to clear my reputation, given I don't proceed with the evil deeds. ...But I will.:D
