I flew around with my military fleet (without being at war with anyone) to scout the galaxy.
After a while I managed to discover 4 different alien "nations" who's borders managed to trap my fleet at the edge of the galaxy, and because I can't enter their borders with my military fleet I can't bring them back home.
When I try to ask any of these 4 nations for Military Border Access they're all at -1000 because they aren't direcly bordering me.

Any way to get my fleet home without just disbanding it and build it up from scratch again after gathering minerals for a bunch of years?

Bumping this and hope there will be some sort of solution when I get back from work.
I'm still quite early into my first game, only 3-4 hours of playtime, so I guess demolishing my fleet and rebuilding it isn't too bad, but it still feels like that shouldn't be the only way out.

No real solution to this eh?
To bad.

Kinda sucks that an ai will let you pass by them like that, and as soon as your fleet is trapped they will reveal themselves and start expecting you to respect their borders, even though I just flew right past it into their trap.

At least I now know who will be first to die after I reraise my fleet!

Are you able to trade fleets in this game?

When this happened in GAL CIV, my preferred method was to find a tolerable civilization out there and give them the fleet, either in trade or an outright gift. Improves my relationship and raises the possibility of them attacking people who aren't me. Which is always a good thing.

when this happened to my science ship it got "lost" and will re-appear at home in like 10 months (same thing happened to me and on my end around I ran into a fallen empire and my fleet went to lost in space, but will return). Have you clicked the button to send the fleet to your nearest star port and seen if it finds a path. I think after it tries to find a way home and can't you should get the lost fleet thing and maybe there is still a way to try.

That only happens if the fleet is inside "enemy" space when contact is made and X jumps away from home or neutral territory.

This happened to one of my science ships. I just declared war, moved the ship through, and then peaced out as soon as I could(it took years though).

Not always a solution unfortunately, I could only afford it because they were early warp and couldn't reach my territory, so no risk of actually getting attacked...

I'm stuck in a system in my enemys territory. It looks like this system doesn't have any connection to any of the other systems in the territory, only connections to neighboring territories.

Had the same problem. I was also in another war so I lost the war. I thought if I took the planet on my border I got all the surrounding area. So it would be nice if you could take systems in a war instead of planets individually.

i had this problem today where my fleet of 12k kicked azz in a war and they sued for peace so i agreed, taking two of their planets, but as my fleet was at one of these planets, i now couldn't fly out as i was completely inside the borders of my former enemy. i asked for military border access and got the -1000 even though i'd kicked their butt just before

so now i'm stuck there for 10 years until the truce runs out. i think the developer has said updates will not mean automatic no-fly zones from AI, so that may help...

For what it's worth, they intend to address this in the "Asimov" patch sometime in June:

  • Border Access Revision: Borders are now open to your ships by default, although empires can choose to Close their borders for another empire (lowering your relations, of course.)

Heh had a simmilar thing happen, my fleet went of chasing an amoeba, and travelled half way around the 1000 star galaxy before all these alien races started making contact. Leaving the fleet stranded in a 1 star gap between empires waaaay out there.

What about the stars east or south-south-west of your current position, within your travel range? Could one of them get you the range to the "too far" stars? I mean, I assume you've tried them, but just incase.

Alternately, any of the stars you can access have ideal colony spots for one of the surrounding empires? If you can set your ships up to be grabbed by a border expansion, they will become list in space, and should pop up nearer to you?
Maybe the one in the crack between Cartel of Athas and Dominion of Qvaloofjfqwfwfl. Seems like that system is just ripe for a border expansion pushing it one way or the other.

This is an old thread, but I've got a similar problem and would like to know whether there is a solution patched by now. The OP here had a fleet stuck behind suddenly appearing empires, which is bad enough, but I simply went to war within a well mapped territory, and my fleets got stuck as the borders of that empire shrunk after the conflict developed and the first two colonies (-fresh new small ones, mind you-) where bombed into oblivion. The reason for the closure was a third, passive empire that just assumed the space behind me due to border colonies with the one I was at war with.(...they were also fast to instantly establish a new colony on one of the worlds that fell through bombardment)

Picture with former "red" empire colonies marked:
unbenannt7qusy.jpg

Now, since I run an oppressive military tyranny (-star wars empire, after all-), the relationships amongst all races is across the board -1000 at least (..or most?), so there is no hope of gaining border access anywhere. However, I would rather not have to start a war with anyone just to get my fleet through, because, -tyrant or not-, all my wars have so far been "justified" by those enemies going against me first, starting with the first who actually attacked me, over the next who then chose to become allies of that enemy, and then those who shielded these next ones with either protection pact or vassallage, etc. etc. . War bears war, but this red one is literally the last one I have original quarrels with.
Attacking any of the others would be a preemptive strike, and ruin my RP world, and I play very RP.(as you can see, I even settle on unfortunate barren or gas worlds and leave them core, just to fit some lore portions)

Is there any way to get out of this? I would also accept console teleport, because I consider this an irrealistic game flaw if not.

Whenever I've had a fleet that can't get home because of that, I've found that hitting the "return" button will give you the option to send the fleet into Emergency FTL (like retreating from battle). The damage is applied to the fleet like normal, and the fleet goes MIA for a time like normal, but you still get your fleet back in your territory.

The button is an arrow going around in a circle on the fleet window:
