I used the French fleet(the one with the CV) once to get the french bomber out of Syria. I then moved back to the port of Brest.
I got an out of oil sign on all of the fleet units that doesn't want to go away even when they are in the port.
What does that mean? How can I get rid of it?

Supply it with oil. Click on the factory/industry button and then on "manage convoys". Then click on a province in your main country (one with a land connection to your capital) and then on a province in Syria. Click on create. Tick the oil box (don't worry if it says there's no oil, it will turn up) and then keep adding ships to the convoy until the text is no longer red but white (you need one convoy for every sea space its going to pass through).

I have a similar problem. Was just wondering (I'm playing Britain), say I want to get oil to Singapore. Does it have to come from a province connected to London or can I take it there direct from Malaya ?

Also, what are the negative effects of having a fleet without oil? I had a fleet run out but I was still able to move them around the East Indian Ocean.

Hmm, since I've never played the UK I really can't say. I think you'd have to bring the oil from the UK (or get an ally to supply you). You may be able to stock it somewhere and then run a convoy even further onwards.

I do think it is a tad strange that everything has to come from your home country though. I think there should be a few key areas around the world which can be used as supply/major stock centres. Perhaps once you have 20+ industry/infrastructure in the province.

Not sure then. I've had no oil and my troops/fleets have ground to a halt. I believe organisation suffers and strength will start to decrease.

I seem to have the same problem playing Japan. I can move certain fleets to a certain sea and they're fine. The most notable one consisted of a carrier, a battleship, 2 cruisers, and a destroyer squadron. I then moved a fleet of 5 Battleships and a destoyer squadron there and it says they're out of oil. I also lost a sub there due to lack of supplies. This sea space is 2 spaces away from a port I own in Saigon.

That is the problem. If my sub is eliminated due to lack of supplies (or whatever), but my carrier based fleet can survive just fine... What's going on with the Battleship fleet?

I've seen this behaviour with German fleet assets that docked in Elbing or Konigsberg (which are disconnected from the German supply net). The fleet will only become in supply when it *leaves* a friendly port in the supply net, not when it docks there. To fix the problem, sail out of Brest.

It's a bit counter-intuitive at first, but it kind of makes sense that ships are refuelled before starting a new journey.

You can take it directly from malaya.

The negative effects is that fleets are MUCH slower without oil.
