I'm playing a game as Fezzan and I'm trying to complete the missions for it. One of them requires me to have 25% trade power in the Caribbean trade node by using privateers. I have access to the node and I even have a merchant stationed at the node. I selected my fleet of merchant ships and I noticed the Caribbean node isn't listed among the nodes they can visit. So, I tell the ships to go straight to the node in question and I notice the Caribbean finally shows up on the list. So, I tell them to start their privateer mission and they promptly return home to Africa and I get a message that says that the mission was cancelled because the fleet could not reach its target. So, what went wrong?

I'm not certain. But I think privateer mission would depend on your naval range not your trade range. So, would your ships take attrition when doing the mission?

Well, I finally did it. I suppose it had to do with naval range, as KwizzN said. The Caribbean showed up on my fleet's list after I took all of Florida from Spain. Mission achieved. Thanks for the replies, guys.
