When on the galactic map mode (i.e. political map), the ship icons next to systems should be changed to provide more information. Keeping the color indicators the same, I'd suggest different icons for:

1) Unknown fleet composition (maybe you can only detect a presence)
2) At least one military fleet (useful when you quickly want to assess whether that enemy/foreign presence is a threat or a mere explorer)
3) Civilian Ship(s) only (esp. useful for knowing where your science vessels are, at a glance)
4) Spacefaring entity/animal (i.e. crystalline entities, amoebas, etc.)

It just seems, after watching footage from the multiplayer event, that the map can become very cluttered with icons that are functionally identical, differing only in color. This extra change would, I believe, make one more layer of very useful information more available without having to mouse over every fleet.

Fully agree with that, and I would also like military stations to have an marker that works the same as ships.
I generally scroll out until only the ship icons are visible when I want to know military positions.
Allow at this level of distance to be discernable which systems have defences. A ring around the star maybe?
