I was wondering what good fleet compositions would be? Is it generally better to go with several large (20+) fleets, or many smaller (<12) fleets. Thinking about playing as USA (going to take them fascist or communist). Should their BB's be lumped together or spread out.

Your Naval oponents, most of the time use huge fleet (25+), and very small ones. So it is best to have a few 30 stacks with enough carriers in them around, ofcourse leaded by a grand admiral. BB's are not very usefull in carrier fleets because they usually stay in carrier range.

For BB fleets, my favourite composition is probably 3 BB, 2 CVL, 7 CL. It's got two extra screens in case some get sunk, and two CVLs for detection. IMHO it's better to have smaller fleets of 6-12 ships, as they can be spread on a much larger area. If you happen to encounter huge enemy fleets, then just join two of these 12-ship fleets together temporarily, and give them a grand admiral.
