I trued looking for La Resistance specific details, but is it just me, or did they do away with the earlier "set home port" option as I can't seem to find it.. And it is really starting to annoy me, as it means my fleets are constantly complaining about low fuel/supplies while operating in a theater that is easily within range of navy bases that could supply them... But the game seems determined to pick the "home base" for me with no (obvious) way to override its poor choices?

Fleets no longer have a home port. You do have to manually place strike fleets in a port in the zones you want them to cover, or the game will put them somewhere for you, and they'll likely be too far away to be of any real use.

This actually came with Man the Guns rather than La Resistance, just as a note.

Ctrl-clicking a port sets the home port and fixes the issue, for the most part. Its one of those fun little aspects of opacity in this game's mechanics that it fails to explain this anywhere.

I remeber the control-clicking to set home port in MtG, but at least it had a toolip(and a button or other UI element, IIRC) for doing that. No such UI elements in La Resistance.

Uhh, just checked, there is a hidden UI element, control-clicking on a Navy base in La resistance does NOT do what you're advertising, or there is something else going on...

navybase.png

That little tooltip came up while holding down a "modifier key" (shift or control) and mousing over a navy base. Control-click toggles if that port does fleet repairs, it doesn't specify a fleet base for a specific task force.

Once they've set at a port, that will be their home port. If its out of range you have to control-click to reset the home port (since otherwise they just dock but in the future will repair and supply from the original home port).

I've done it quite a few times, which is why I brought up the lack of any explanation for this feature. They do need to move to the port though, as the tooltip points out ("ctrl + right-click to cancel mission, and move to that naval base").

At this point I'm thinking their fuel distribution system is broken in some not-obvious way not discernable through the the supply system API's in the base game.

To put something of a lie to your claim above, I have 2 fleetstaskforces on hold orders in a level 8 navy base with 10 infrastructure, the port is not blockaded and the army units stationed there are supplied normally. The supply convoys for that island have never been attacked, let along being sunk.

But the Supply area map mode is reporting naval supply demand on the island is 0, even as the two taskforces are complaining about being in low (fuel) supply. Some more screwing around with the one task force(moved it to reserve status) magically fixed its supply problem, but it took until the next day for the new supply source to be reflected on the supply map(so I guess it is updated on a new day at 0100)

It looks almost like the fleet determines the home port for the task force now, but it provides no means to control that selection. To further confirm this "feature" I subsequently took the second task force and moved it between fleets while in that same port. Sure enough, depending on which fleet I placed the task force in, the task force would go from in supply to being low on supply.

It looks like they have abstracted naval supply in some way that the fleet determines where your ship is being supplied from. Going to mess with it some more, but the meta on this is all kinds of screwed up in terms of the micro that players will have to go through in terms of managing what auto-magic the game is doing to where their fleets are getting supplied from. (and having to reshuffle fleet compositions to adjust for whatever limited ability such shuffling allows)

If that's an issue, I tend to have fleets mostly operating out of a single cluster of ports anyways so I very well may never have seen this before. Sorry about that.

The only place where it's likely to be a noticeable issues for many players is probably in the Pacific Ocean, as that's exactly where I encountered it.

From discussions I've since gleaned from other threads after the OP, it's highly gamey as it stands, because that "fleet supply mechanic" does basically mandate that you go into the regions your task group is operating in and disable repair operations in that port(which will prevent it from supplying from there) and disabling every "undesirable" port in all of the adjacent zones as well. And so on and so forth as needed.

The really fun part is the only foolproof way I've found of learning where a task force is supplying from is through the Production Menu by making that task force a target destination for the ship under construction/refit and mousing over the deploy target button. "Deploy target task force (insert name) with base in (location)"
