So I was watching the stream recording earlier, and got to thinking. One of the problems with government is that they don't feel that different from each other. Well, some of fixing that involves mechanics, but presentation makes a big difference in how things feel. So, why not name things appropriately? Democracies get parties. Corporations get departments. Religions get sects. Hereditary governments get dynasties or perhaps noble families. Most of that is just plain naming - although add a little mechanic to distinguish "approved" factions, and only apply government-based naming to them, and you've got that much more to it. Now, each faction could have a little something to make them special. Parties are a lot like what's already there. A little gimmick for each new type might be cool too though. Imagine if dynasties have a name taken from part of the faction leader name lists, and then leaders associated with that faction are also ones with that surname. Of course, surname (and phenotype) continuity for hereditary governments already needs help. But, there's a lot of little things like that to integrate these existing systems with the ones in the new patch in ways that aren't just compatible (ie, not buggy) but synergistic (generating new and awesome quality). And while it's always possible that there's something I'm missing, it seems like a relatively small dev investment relative to the appearance of variety it adds.

This would all be easily handled if the Factions can be renamed. :)
It's not a problem that needs to be handled. I think the names that we saw in the stream are fine for what they are. Rather, it's an opportunity to make something better. Renaming doesn't really deal with that the way dynamic generation (that recognizes and respects earlier player choices, in this case government) does.

Would still like to also have the option to rename factions manually. Utopia and Banks are all about intra-empire structure and formation: it's the perfect time to allow the customization of factions, at least as far as the names go. We can already rename basically everything within our own borders

This may be a bit of a niche request, as I'm one of the few people who will take the time to rename all of the systems in his territory on a Large galaxy as an expansionist empire (pro tip: naming schemes make this easier) - but if were renaming individual leaders left and right, faction naming also seems logical

Errr... right now fractions are based on specific Ethos.

Don`t you think that having materialistic fraction named as RELIGIOUS SECT just becouse it is a fraction in teocraric state is a bit strange?

Or having spiritualist fraction in oligarchy named "department"?

Or imagine situation: as a Dispitic Empire you concuer Egalitarian republic= get a lot of it`s egalitarian POPs. After a while they start an egalitarian fraction, which is... a noble house?!

Well, you might say it is. Because you, well, give some aristocratic title to their leader, and all of them gathered und his proud banner... But what if in your empire aristocratic titles are earned in battles for Empire? Than it`s just silly to have an "noble house" from just conquered "lawless scum".

Ability to Rename fractions is really what we need.
It allows traditionaly Militarist/Xenophobe/Authoritarian Empire to have traditional fractions House of Yir (Militarists), House of Danuk (Xenophobe) and House of Dun (Authoritarians)
And to call egalitarian fraction made of conquered species "Underground freedom mouement"
Your suggestion seems good at general level, but when we go to details it will bring more problems when it solve.

This seems like a great small idea. Having the factions named after the specific government form sounds great. Though I think they should be logically restricted to only "official" factions or something. Democracies might always have parties, but oligarchies and monarchies might limit them to only factions that have been supported with influence. In those cases, the faction would become a "department" or "noble house" or something else relevant. Suppressing them would logically remove that from the faction, as well.

To clarify, I don't think that renamable factions is a bad thing, it would be a nice addition too. It just doesn't address the point of conveying flavor, which is done through default naming primarily. You can, after all, come up with any lore for your own empire, but the lore which the game incorporates and respects is what makes the game itself rich.

Don`t you think that having materialistic fraction named as RELIGIOUS SECT just becouse it is a fraction in teocraric state is a bit strange?
Ah, I neglected to mention this in the OP, but I agree actually - I think that this naming scheme should generally only apply to those which are broadly similar in philosophy (ethoi) to your government.
