Flashing Screen

Okay Im still having a problem running AOD on my Win 7 64 bit system. The game loads fine... play fine, but the screen flickers on and off every second or two. I adjusted the screen res, but that didnt help. I tried running the .exe for Win XP SP3 compatibility, but that didnt go either.

I installed and ran the game from my Win XP 32 bit laptop... no problems.

What do you think it could be... did you ever hear of this problem?

I had this problem when I got my new computer. It was caused by a tool bar at the top of the screen with some icons on it. I noticed it stopped when I played in windowed mode and moved the screen below the tool bar. So I turned off the tool bar and have not had a problem since.

Alt-tabbing in and out of the game might cause the problem, at least it does in other Paradox games.

But I have a problem with Window mode. The launcher has the option of 'Windowed Mode' but its labeled in red test and wont select. Another problem?

remember to right click your desktop, go to screen resolution, clicky advanced settings, click monitor, and down at the bottom hit "16 bit" instead of "32" bit colors. (if someone knows a faster way, let me know )

dang I still have this problem... wont work none of it.

I tried... reducing to 16 bit, using windowed version, looking for a toolbar (didnt see one). Dont know. The flashing starts after the intro is done and I hit main menu.

Its an engine specific issue...
but fear not - the first patch already has it fixed

At least in the original HOI2 flickering was caused by having other windows open in the backround. When the window refreshes (because of some animation etc) it causes the game to flicker. This can be anything for a browser to a download client. Experiment by closing unused programs (and unplug your network cable and try playing without antivirus/firewall turned on)

BTW I only played a hour or so of AOD and my initial impression... GREAT game. I havent even got to combat and notice alot has been changed and improved.

I dont know if this makes any difference but I just tried out Victoria on my computer and it does the exact same thing as AOD. Hearts of Iron 3 doesnt flash though.

Could it be something that both Victoria and AOD have that generates this flashing?

Yes. Both games use the same engine, so you can expect the same thing also in Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis I/II.
