Ancient flags

This will knock out a few of those :) IIRC, they are not 100% historical, but if you can't find anything else....

Egypt

The Ankh is defined as: The symbolic representation of both Physical and Eternal life. It is known as the original cross, which is a powerful symbol that was first created by Africans in Ancient Egypt.
The loop of the Ankh is held by the Gods. It is associated with Isis and Osiris in the Early Dynastic Period.

Babylon

The lion with wings represents the Babylonian Empire. Historical references tell us that Babylon had many statues of winged lions guarding the gates to the royal palace. There were also lions along the walls of the Ishtar Gate. Babylon had even placed a lion on the back of its silver shekel - a coin - just as many nations place a significant symbol on the back of their coins. The lion was a symbol of the Babylonian Empire.

Rome

The she-wolf and the twins, Romulus and Remus, who are the key characters in the foundation myth of Rome. This scene became a symbol for the city of Rome.

Carthage

National emblem of the horse accompanied by a palm tree and the words "in the camp" in punic script.

Cyrenaica

The silphium plant (pictured on the reverse), was the most famous export of the city. In ancient times the silphium plant (related to the Asian asafetida) was highly prized: from the juices of the flower came perfumes and seasonings; the stalk was used as a vegetable; and the plant had medicinal qualities as well.

If you somehow would manage to do a set out from the Assyrian solar cross that would be great to. :)

I also have a hard time to figure out how to do a set out from the winged lion for Babylonia  :)

As for Persia I have heard they had an eagle with spread wings as a symbol at there Empires highlight. Does that sounds likely to you aswell?

I'll gladly help out, I'll see what I can do about the Alexander shield. Probably have to remake the source image. :)

If you're looking for a good symbol/emblem of Macedonia this is probably the best option:

The 16 pointed sun of Kutleš, (Vergina), symbol of the ancient Macedonian dynasty

smallsun1.gif

"This 8-rayed and 16-rayed Macedonian Sun had been cherished by the Macedonians for over 3,000 years. It appears on the coins, military equipment, and art of the ancient Macedonian kingdom, and continued to be National Insignia of the Macedonians throughout history to modern times. The Macedonian sun is found in the icons and frescoes in the churches throughout the whole territory of divided Macedonia, and speaks of volumes of tradition as the Macedonian nation had cherished it for centuries."

Ancient Persian standard
"The standard of ancient Persia, adopted by Cyrus, according to Herodotus, and Xenopho, and perpetuated, was a golden eagle with outstretched wings painted on a white flag."
