I think you can find Barcelona CoA in archives of game. I remember doing the change manually. The CoA is in gfx/flags/d_catalunya_vella, i think.

if one king owns both kingdoms and reverse the change if they become separate kingdoms, but I don't know if it is possible or it's a foolishness.

But as the latter I would imagine that there are infinitely. hehe

@ zijistark: personally I'd use the Plantagenet: ''gules 3 lions passant guardant or'' for both Norman and English. In fact they might even be better for English than Norman.

K, great, thanks for adding to the list. I can do Aragon too, and that one's a pretty simple case. I'll just need to get the de Barcelona pattern/colors/number of stripes drawn on a 128x128 with the proper center offset. If anybody feels like doing that for me, then swell, because you'd probably get it whipped into shape 10x faster than I. [E.g., I don't know what the proper center offset for christian CoA is. I know that it exists and is small, but yeah.]

Just confirming since I personally know very little about specific CoA history. So our first (and perhaps only, who knows) dynamic CoA rule would be:

- Whenever a Saxon controls England, use the Saxon dragon flag.
- Whenever a Norman controls England or the controlling dynasty is Plantaganet, use the Plantaganet 'three lions' flag.
- Whenever an English character controls England (and isn't a Plantaganet), use the Cross of St. George flag.
- When a character that doesn't meet any of the above holds England, do what? Use the Cross of St. George?

Do we have all 3 art assets already? Arko, Aasmul? I can take care of the rest once I get the graphics. The code will also run in the 'Adapting History' phase so that SWMH/vanilla doesn't have to worry about setting the right CoA for the right start dates. Flag change will be instantaneous whenever one of the above conditions changes.

EDIT: Looks like we've got all 3 flags ready now. I'll use the vanilla Plantaganet lions flag, the SWMH Saxon dragon flag, and Aasmul just whipped up a quick Cross of St. George for me.

I think that is definitely the most historically accurate solution. My only suggested change is regarding this: "- Whenever an English character controls England (and isn't a Plantaganet), use the Cross of St. George flag." I agree, but for consistency I would add (and isn't a Plantagenet OR de Normandie) since we are using the three lions for Norman England as well.

I think that crest would be fantastic for the Empire of Hispania if the holder held both the Kingdom of Castille and the Kingdom of Leon, had one of them as their primary title, and then formed the empire. Of course, in that case, wouldn't it be more appropriate to have the empire be styled "Kingdom of Spain" to fit with the pattern of "Kingdom of France" for vanilla Francia and "Kingdom of Italy" for vanilla Italia? While some of the kings of Castille and Leon DID use the title "imperator" during the High Middle Ages, they were rarely recognized as such by anyone else. At the time when they used that title, they also didn't have enough land to, in CKII, form the Empire of Hispania.

EDIT: If the coding for that is too difficult, perhaps make a Catholic formed Hispania be the "Kingdom of Spain" with the quoted heraldry?
EDIT 2: Also note that it could be "Kingdom of Hispania" too; didn't mean to suggest that it needed to be Anglicized.

It was first introduced as a symbol by Edward I (reports of it coming from Richard the Lionheart are not sustainable). I honestly agree though. . . generally the "flags" in Crusader Kings are heraldic, and England's heraldic symbol was (and still is, if you look at Queen Elizabeth II's coat of arms) the three lions of the Plantagenets. I don't think adding the cross of St. George would be a historical problem, per say, but I do prefer the Plantagenet arms.
