Playing France with the new expansion I went the Orleans restoration route.
To my surprise, the French tricolor is then replaced by the traditional white flag of the elder branch of the Bourbon dynasty.
This is very wrong : this flag is very strongly linked to the legitimist in France. Historically, during the Orleans period, France used the tricolor and this became one of the symbol of the Orleans : the attempt at synthesis between the Revolution and the Monarchy. It makes little sense that an Orleans restoration would use the flag of the rival pretender, especially given how much the white flag is associated with the legitimist claim.
This flag question is so important, that it actually was one of the major causes of the failure at restoring monarchy in France back in 1871 : the legitimist pretender tried to impose the white flag and the constitutive assembly (with an orleans majority) would not accept anything but the tricolor.
Ironically, the national focus icon "orléanist restoration" is correct : it shows the arms of the Orleans familly... with tricolor flags.
Moreover, the official name of France during the July (Orleans) monarchy was "kingdom of France", as it had been under the elder Bourbon, but the king took the title "king of the French" , in specific contrast to the "king of France" of the legitimists.
Hence a country named "Orleans France" with a white flag makes little sense, it should be the kingdom of France (at the very least, it could be "kingdom of the French", if a specific name is really needed), with the tricolor flag (if a distinction is absolutely necessary, maybe deface a tricolor with a fleur-de-lys, but the tricolor is in the very arms of the reigning family and should be present). I must say that, to anyone slightly knowledgeable about this, this is a major immersion-breaker : the last flag I expected popping-up with an Orleans restoration was the one belonging to the rival claimant... especially given that the focus icon is correct.
You can, as always, check it all on Wikipedia, please note the "flag" and "royal coat of arms" at the beginning of the page.
