Every Crusader Kings 2 player who plays the game to this day will be familiar with the feeling of having an incredible character, the likes of which the world has never seen, and yet, as a result of a flyting gone wrong, he will be forever known by some incredibly utterly absurd nickname such as "the Whiner."

Nicknames need to have some sort of prioritization or some method of assuming the mantle of a new nickname instead. It goes without saying that no player wants any character to be known by something stupid, especially someone who has at least a 10 in every stat.

All jokes aside, I have no problem with a character getting a terrible nickname, but there needs to be a way of getting rid of it through either great effort on the part of the character or some other phenomena I cannot think of at the moment. The only way to do this in the current patch is simply to get an event that overrides your character's nickname, but these events are far too infrequent to make a meaningful and noticeable change in gameplay.

I thought there might be a list of bad nicknames ranging in severity whose effort required to get rid of them directly corresponds to the seriousness of the nickname itself. Something like the Whiner shouldn't require too much effort to get rid of, especially in a Warrior Lodge; however, something that infers a ruler's cruelty or greed should require a great deal more effort than the latter example. This might be done through an event chain or perhaps a decision to attempt to clean a character's slate or repair it.

That being said, I like the idea that a character can never truly repair their reputation after certain failures during their time ruling a country and having a character being so utterly incompetent or reprehensible that they can never repair the damage done to their reputation.

I would like to thank everyone for reading this suggestion/rant at fixing the nickname system.

A prio- system sounds good. two tiers are enough, where prio 1 is a limited few only. If you have a Prio 2, only an event that should give you a prio1 nickname can fire. so a Whiner can still be "The Great" or something equal but not "The Sword of <pagan diety>" for winning a defensive holy war.

First off, I am NOT a whiner, why do you keep calling me that ? You archivists and scribes are NOT FAIR and just being mean to me...!

Seriously, history is written by scribes and monks, many of whom might have some axe to grind against the player. That being said I was going to disagree with your post until I read your suggestion that there should be way for the player to remove it. Maybe it could be some sort of character action based on all the high Learning characters in your realm that allowed you to convince them to speak well of you, naturally the high Diplomacy supporters would have the greatest chance of removing a dud nickname.

Lord Barca a whiner ? Why in Heaven's name would anyone say that, I have always found him to be proud and stoic, a true model of chivalry !
