I have been working on resolving the screwey naval combat
system in which submarines are uberweapons capable
of sinking entire enemy battlefleets...along with transports.
I first tried a fix of lowering submarines' naval defense
to zero, along with transports. That worked. A battlefleet
would then maim the submarines, but it was *too* regular,
as in every time a naval fleet went into the same sea province
as a submarine, there would ALWAYS be naval combat.
I looked into the unit files again, and lo and behold, I found the following ratings:
Cruiser:
subdetectioncapability = 4
Destroyer
subdetectioncapability = 9
Battleship:
subdetectioncapability = 2
I then lowered their sub detection capabilities to zero, and
drastically reduced the Destroyer's detection capability (it will
be restored through more advanced sonar, etc)
Historically, only destroyers actually fitted effective sonar, as
battleships and cruisers were just too noisy, etc
I'll let you know how this fix works.
