This will not hinder the AI to convert a ridiculous amount of pops into soldiers to form a huge standing army though, I guess.

My suggestion on lessening the "intensity" of wars in the early part of the game is to link how much WE you get to advances in Culture techs. The less Culture techs you have the faster you get WE. In particular the Nationalism tech should give you a huge decrease in how fast you get WE, thereby making this otherwise inane tech worth getting.

I'm just hoping- can someone gauge how high of a probability that POP merging will be fixed in 1.03, and what behavior it will take? I personally would rather be playing one of those lower population minors who seem to be the concern in this issue, and have my POPs not merge when I invest alot of capitol into upgrading them, and having a disadvantage to the bigger populace countries.

Why isn't there another way to handle the disparity? Perhaps literacy should have a big role in the production efficiency of factories and RGO's? This way, countries like China and Ottoman Empire won't make tons of money just because they have tons of RGO's, because their workers are illiterate and less efficienct. Make sense?

That's because those are founded colonies, not claims. Try buying an African claim and you'll see that they're incredibly obstinate.

Yeah that's very important to me as well. I'm sure once upon a time in a land far far away, the war score was intended to give the player a good idea of how much to ask for in order to get a peace deal and not be frustrated with constant re-negotiations just because the AI is 'stubborn'. The simple answer is, if the AI is 'stubborn' then the war score should be modified appropriately!

WAR_SCORE = WHATEVER_REGULAR_WARSCORE_CALCULATION> * STUBBORNESS.

The day it de-coupled itself from this extremely useful functionality is the day it became totally useless.

They tend to trade claims 1 for 1 if you have good relations.

See post one :p Last Johan mentioned he was looking at making only pops under 10k merge. Of course, that could have changed with testing, but it's the latest info I have.

Ah ok, I saw that in your original post but Iw as not sure how much credibility it had when I read those were 'rumors' you heard about- I was unsure if they were rumors from forum goers or from Johan and the guys themselves. thanks

but I still think it's not fair to have to pay the cost to upgrade a POP only to have it merge and you lose all that capital for nothing :mad:

but I realize nothing is mentioned of that, I just hope that aspect of it is being addressed. At least when the POPs merge, you should get a refund! :D

Well just don't convert anything under 10k :) If you want you can force pops to merge to make them over 10k by converting them. Some conversions are free, like farmer to labourer. Since farmers and labourers cannot live in the same province they will convert back right away and merge leaving you with a big pop you can convert safely.

Perhaps, in 1.05 or 1.07 it might be possible to pay upgrade proportional to pop size? - and have production proportional to pop size, too! That would be more realistic.

The issue for getting small countries playable is to have a more realistic WM. I know it is not possible to make the computer check all thoretically possible trade connections. But there should be some way to make a trade treaty.

No, but it would make large armies very expensive, as you'd have to keep them between wars. Not many economies could stand that and still out-grow their rivals.
