WARNING: SPOILERS

An example would be the Panzyr defense mission where you have to destroy incoming vehicles and protect the barracks. It is literally impossible to intercept the vehicle going to insta-capture the Barracks without a fast light that starts the mission sprinting to the Barracks, even with no reason to do so. It requires a Jenner with the Piloting perk giving you faster sprinting that ignores all enemies and targets and sprints to the far side of the barracks - which gives it 1 turn to shoot at the vehicle and hope it gets lucky and destroys it. If you wait until it gives you the warning that the enemy is coming to the barracks (and unless you're paying careful attention won't see that it's taking a back route) you'll fail. It's impossible to accomplish this part of the mission unless you've played it and seen what happens and then take 1 mech specifically to deal with that 1 thing.

Given that the mission comes far enough along that you should be fielding heavies and assaults and possibly 1 medium unless you have some reason not to.It also makes no sense that if the vehicle gets there instantly everyone inside is captured or killed. Like it takes less than the 10 seconds of a whole round for that to happen.

I love the game, love the campaign, love the variety of the missions. This however is bad design.

Do none of your mechs have long range weapons? All you need is for your scout to have the car in sensor range and then target lock it (you gave your scout pilot target lock, right?). Then you just rain LRM death and pepper it with whatever incidentals can draw a bead on the locked target. Unless there’s something I’m missing here, I don’t see that as being functionally impossible.
