The only drawback to the arab nations IMO is the lack of diplomats. In the test run I made with one of them this was alarmingly evident.

I dont have any immediate plans of editing my ai file every turn....but I do think that the possibility of editing the ai makes the game much more interesting since this will infact give u some control over what your ai will do when u are not there...so eg. when you feel peacefull u can have a low aggressiveness and no countries on your prefered target list....However if engage in a great war against a human player u can put him on the prefered target list and increase your aggressiveness to make your ai continue the war even in between your turns....which I think will make warfare much more interesting....since thisway u can infact have two ais fighting each other which will make eg. naveltech much more important....since if u only fight during your own turn u can usually manage to win the navel war even with quite an inferior tech.

to sum up: I think that editing the ai file as often as possible is definately an advantage!

I suppose what I'm trying to point out is that if we let each player change his AI file everytime you play your turn then everyone is going to have to remember to replace the AI file every turn in the game. In the last game I didn't look at half the saved games that were passed around. I only looked when it was my turn.
Joe

one way to make this easier will be to simply ALWAYS include the latest ai files in the zip...this way when u do your turn u download the savegame file and all ai files to your desktop...then copy them to the appropriate folders and play your turn. When your turn is finished you have the option of editing your ai-file, then u zip the savegame as well as all the aifiles including your new updated(?) file and sent it out....This way it will only be necessary to download files when playing your own turn, since all the latest aifiles will always be included in each zip...the zip-file will however now consist of 7 files instead of the normal 2...but since all the aifiles go to the same directory this shouldnt be too complicated ;)

I'm starting to get the feeling we could go around in circles over this for quite a while and not reach a universal decision. Everyone seems to have a slightly different opinion...but still seems flexible to go with whatever is chosen by the group.

So far it appears that the positions are:

Storey: Minimum edits
Backpack: Minimum to medium edits
Ludovico: Medium to max edits
Boehm: Max edits

That looks like a deadlock to me.

I propose that we wait for the arrival of the all knowing Raul the Runt to wade in as the tiebreaker. He casts the deciding vote...and...we move on from there.:)

How does that sound? Shoot me if I'm out of line.;)

Edit: I dropped RtR an e-mail letting him know that we were having some trouble working out the ai edits procedures.

So you just copy them in the AI folder and when the computer asks if you want to overwrite the exsisting files with the same name you hit yes? I suppose this would work. By the way Bohem thanks for the detailed instructions.:)

Storey & boehm,

I just noticed both of you guys were here in the MP forum. Perhaps you could work out a compromise position? I think everyone would go along with whatever the two of you agreed upon.:)

Edit: Disregard my comments. I see you are way ahead of me...as usual....;)

exactly, ...and while I know I probably wrote something most of you already know or would have had no trouble figuring out on your own....writing it really down to earth would atleast ensure that noone had the excuse of saying that it was too complicated.... :D

As long as it still fits of a flopy disk I don't see a problem. We just have an AI folder that it passed around with the saved game and download that each time we play. This should solve my problem with not looking at every saved game that comes along. This should work.

cool, looks like we did what Alex wanted ...and managed to come to an agrement! :) - the ai files are really small...so it shouldnt be a problem

I am good with passing them around - not that it matters, but I might include ais from other games in that as well. They wont affect your other games, our our game (they are labelled only to work with my other savegames) but I don't want to pick them out every time I have to zip a file either :D

I am good with this decision. I figure the more we get to edit the AI the better. It has worked well in our other games...

Looking for some clarification on the initial treasury/DP click rules.

I bid 12 ducats and have 488 ducats and 3 DP clicks remaining.

Can I buy/sell DP clicks at 150 ducats each?

hey man...just asking?:D A "free" art museum or an army with 6DP click adjusted morale would be pretty cool to have.;)

"Fear me for I am the Mighty and Invincible Mantua!:D" sorta has a nice ring to it.:)

I don't know. I guess if you want you can take the money equivalent for the sliders. Since it wasn't clear I say go ahead and do it. But I don't think you can go the other way, In other words you can't buy DP clicks so no 6DP.:)

Ok, I im 98% sure I am choosing the Knights. Hopefully I can stop the Turkish advance, just as it is picking up steam. I will pay for it with 1 DP click - so

206 - 150 = 56 Ducats and 1 DP Click Wagered
500 - 56 = 444 Ducats

444 Ducats and 2 Dp Changes. The file will be out late tonight, and I will write in the AAR when I am done as well.
