Am I the only one who kinda feels that the way the current alliance system works is a little too WW1.

I mean two random nations in the HRE start a war with each other and with chaining alliances and the way larger nations can become the war leader we end up with France, Spain and Hungry vs Austria, England and Poland with the less nations throwing in on both sides all over a war minor internal HRE war

Isn't this a little too WW1 of a system? Where endless chaining alliances cause vast world wars were great powers end up clashing for no real reason they care about

The military and navy negative modifiers need to scale more. Large nations should generally only be protectors of small nations (almost never allies). Although, the AI would have to actually proclaim guarantee of small nations for this to work.

It does feel like that, especially late game, where it becomes ridiculous. It really does feel like WWI. What was supposed to be the Hansa conquest of Mecklemburg becomes France, Portugal, Spain, Naples, Hungary vs. Austria, all of HRE, Poland, Lithuania, Sweden, Russia, and Ottomans. Oh yeah, war leaders change, so in the end, the Hansa doesn't get want it wants and millions of soldiers die because the Hansa wanted Mecklemburg for themselves.

Maybe Diplomatic relationships should have different weights? Let's say they doubled all the Diplo slots (start with 8 instead of four), but made an alliance equal to 4 diplo slots. RMs, warnings, and guarantees would remain at 1 diplo slot, while PUs and Vassals would take 2. Being a member of a coalition could take 3.

This would cut down on the alliance chains, and make you balance your relationships.
