I haven't played HOI2 for a while. Now I plan to start new campaign with TRP modification. I was thinking Romania or Germany. Any tips what country to choose? I hope my campaign wont be a cake walk.

I'm going with Germany right now, only December 39, so not a lot of war experience, but I'll say what I've thought.

I love the manpower system.. but it's possible to recruit divisions even when you don't have enough of it, seems like a bug, don't know if it's been brought up. I just don't exploit it. It's a nifty system though, because you can set reinforcements to zero IC and then after a campaign or major battle you can see exactly how many troops you lost. i.e. I lost 8,844 in my Polish campaign (of course I reinforced after viewing the number) and 24,300 in just one battle with the French (oops).

It is a bit trickier than vanilla. After crushing Poland I turned to the west, taking Denmark easily and preparing for Netherlands. Sadly, I wasn't aware that when I attacked one Benelux nation the rest DOW'd me, and I got in some deep trouble since I was unprepared for Frenchies and Belgians to come streaming out of the Ardennes. Luckily.. my game CTD'd and I got to reload before that mishap

All in all, I like it. It's unbalanced yes, but not that badly. Only big thing I've seen is SU seems vastly overpowered with no peacetime IC modifier. It'll be very interesting when I get to that phase.

Oh, and I dig the unit models/icons. I hated them for about 5 minutes, now I'm itching for even more. Good work on this mod.

Bonzo is doing some great work.

Hell all the guys are, it is just going to take a few more months till its finally completely and balance tested. I really appreciate people playing it even though we clearly say its not balance tested. You are helping us make it better much faster than we thought it would be possible.

It's hard to miss the warnings that it's unbalanced, but I figured I'd give it a go anyways. It really is off to a superb start. If I might say a few more things I've noticed...

Belgian troops seemed to turn French, the instant I DOW'd Belgium all their counters turned to French. Seemed a bit odd. I think the forts in Leige are a little much. It's been a challange (which is very good mind you, I so rarely get to sweat with these games anymore) attacking France. I'm not sure the German AI could handle the French.

Spanish Civil War has been wierd to watch. The Nationalists kicked the holy crap out of the Republicans but the Republicans have had 2 provinces and only 4 militia divisions for over a year and an half. The Nationalists surround the 0IC Republicans with a massive advantage in numbers and have never attacked... just seemed kind of odd, even for the HOI2 AI.

I've had 2 SS Panzer divisions activate, and was pleasently surprised.. but I have to wonder why the picture is of a Tiger, and since it's just a "Guard Improved Medium Tank" I wonder what it is. Not a big deal, just nitpicking.

Japan has done extremely well against China, which I always like seeing. Not much to say on that front.

Last but not least, the Soviet AI seems a bit warmongering, it DOW'd me in 39 and I hadn't done anything out of the ordinary. I thought it was quirky and used acceptall to make them sign a white peace, since my game would be very short if I didn't.

That's all, kudos to the creaters of this mod, it'll be one of the better ones for sure.

Yeah I've noticed the spanish civil war thing as well. Since I installed 0.71 I've played 3 campaigns (ger, su, and jap) and in all 3 the SCW never finishes. This is without any intereference or influencing on my part except for the SCW events ger and SU get. Prior to the 0.71 install the SCW almost never lasted past 39, I've gone to 44 with the SU and the republicans ans nationalists are still sluggin it out.

current game as jap, germany navy has suprisingly done well, sinking several times their number in UK and french ships. still small(40 ships) with almost no SS to speak of but 3 of german BB's have been kicking ass and managed to survive up to my current time (late 42). Italys fleet is practically gone and the UK is down to less than 50, albeit with several CV's and BB's left over.

If there is anyway possible, teach the US navy NOT to send out little dink 4 ship fleets consisting of CL's and DD's. I've lost track of how many US light ships I've sank in less than a year because they get sent out with NO heavy ships at all, not even CA's. Also, any way to teach the UK naval AI not to send ALL of their heavy fleet to asia if JAP DOW's the allies as a human player? every UK BB and CV was in the south china sea within a month of me declaring war and I've been chasing the bastids down ever since(although that might be the reason ger still has BB's left)

Several of the JAP events have the UNKOWN STRING WANTED in the text field for their events, I've counted around a dozen at least.

For JAP 18 and 36 INF divs, the unit icons say 41 and 43 respectively. 39 and later user the vanilla icons so I'm assuming the TRP icons got linked to the wrong inf div level somehow.

Last thing and more of a question, if/when/possible will the convoy AI get adjusted? it bounces wildly back and forth on how many ships and escorts are assigned to a paticular route on a daily basis? I'm assuming the answer is "when 1.3 comes out", just looking for confirmation

BTW Norway has the 3rd largest navy atm(just someone might find that amusing "The Vikinig are coming! Ruuuunnn!") and you guys completely, totally rock

Have your tried inflincting on them a peace time penalty (50%)? I did, but I'm not yet in 1939, therefore I don't know what effects it will have on their willingness to go to war.

No, I havn't given them any penatlies, but they broke their forced peace a few months later right as I was finishing off France. Should the AI be so willing to break truces? I didn't forceaccept another one, this time I went with it and shifted the army to the east. Oddly enough the 18 Infantry divisions and garrisons in Poland delayed the Red hordes, the SOV AI seemed hesitant to attack into Poland, even though they certainly outnumbered me, they took a few garrison provinces, but didn't engage my regular troops.

This is very true. TRP is THE mod for HOI2 and I doubt CORE will be better than this. I am having great times playing it. Of course it still needs some improvements here and there (Especially in graphics, so I can stop to use counters), but it is wonderful.

In the name of the HOI2 players I can only thank the crew for this amazing work.

Seems like my coming game is gonna be interesting. Can't wait for next weekend when I have few hours to spend with this game. :)

I think I will choose Romania, even while Germany seems really interesting too. I haven't played Romania in HOI2, I try to conquer neighbourgs and ally with Germany & Italy. Fun to see how I manage against Soviet Union.

thank you very much boys: your words are our engine to work better and better!

De Savage, please, in your next game with Romania (or other Minor), could you put an eye on MP? I need to know his avarage value in the war and your impression on it

Thanks

TRP has definetly made its own special place in my heart.
I started a campaign as Germany and it was an actual surprise when I tried to invade france, and the French put up an incredible fight (it took my 4 months to break them completely). I was able to invade the UK and subsequently have the NWO events for the Allies. My only real gripe so far is that the SU has WAAY too many divisions early in the game (39-41) and it makes it almost impossible for germany to muster enough troops to attempt Operation Barbarossa. Also, I think the US shouldn't declare war on Japan if Japan is able to push China to the brink of extinction, it upsets the balance of power early into the game.

Otherwise this Mod is excellent! Great job guys!
