Btw what happens if you destroy the army of the Ilkhanate? Do they get new reinforcements? I managed to win my war against the Ilkhanate, but they kept coming even though I killed 100k mongols up to the point where I would have lost the war If I hadn't 100% already

Mongol invasions are currently beyond terrible and anti-fun. If you're playing in Persia, you can lose Khiva without even a single battle because of how fast they can assault your holdings. Giving them no attrition is a terrible hamfisted abstraction of steppe warfare to compensate for bad AI. They already have 50,000+ troops, they do not need to be able to run around with a gigantic doomstack that forces you to lose massive amounts of men to attrition.

But what is the alternative? Give them player-sized armies so that players could completely steamroll them? Even the AI isn't going to lose more than a couple of kingdoms to that until someone gives them enough trouble that they break down into civil wars.

Hrm. What if the mongols had their own special unit, and it had just completely ridiculous stats to represent their advantage? Say, 3-4x the stats of horse archers? This could combine with the continuous reinforcements from the east idea and maybe create a situation where the mongols are using reasonable-sized armies and operating within the game rules (attrition), but are still virtually unbeatable at full strength, as they should be.

I seriously doubt the land of the Komi would have supported armies past a certain degree of density or there'd be tremendous attrittion. Especially in wintertime. The best examples of what the terrain of the Finnish lands can do to large armies is in the Winter War and the Continuation Wars between the Finns and the Russians. Suffice it to say that the Russians took appalling losses in both wars. And that took place 7 centuries after the Mongol invasions !

First off, the Winter War was a perfect storm for why the Soviets suffered such huge losses.

Second, multiple wars were done between Novgorod and Sweden over who would control Finland in this time period. Until it finally stabilized with Sweden holding the South and Novgorod holding the North.
