I'm curious as to bigger building sizes. Since things can be built 4 blocks from the road, I'm guessing 4x4 buildings are the largest. However, squares of 4x4 might be a little boring and repetitive in a CBD. Is it possible that buildings maybe go 5x4 or 6x4 so that there are slightly larger buildings?

A few more suggestions/ideas...

A functional rail system (if one isn't already in the works) with realistic train stations.
Elevated rail and/or Monorail system.
Modern transportation vehicles and technological features.
Advanced international airport builder to allow us to make realistic international airports and also allow us to customize them to our liking.

The more transportation options the better in order to ensure reliable means of transportation for the citizens in our cities and to minimize traffic problems in our cities and thus make a much more travel efficient city.

Lastly, given the many technical issues already plaguing CXL, I was very disappointed to hear about the possibility that the game might crash with maximum sized maps. Large scale maps is one of the things I was hoping for in a new city building simulation game. Can't you make some twerks to better ensure game functionality with that?

I completely agree with this.

I agree!

Another thing that would be good is if high-density zones could use the left-over in the middle. Say that you zone a 8x8 block. That will give an 4x4 box in the middle where no building will spawn. Regardless of solution I'm curious to know if and how we could use that space for something more than just an empty space of grass. It would be cool if a high-density zone could recognize this space in the middle if it is surrounded by zoning and therefore include it in the block. That would give a maximum of 8x8 buildings for high-density zones. A little more realistic for dense city centres.

If the building are tall or not doesn't really matter. Just look at this lovely, gorgeous monster from Berlin: :wub: :wub: :wub:

The problem with that is that they designate the blocks for you when you zone a road, so anything out of the squares are already just open grass, and I think that the buildings would not recognize that they could somehow influence the open grass area.

However, I do like your idea a lot. It might be that there is a plaza filler tool. Or otherwise we should keep the roads close enough together so that there are no open spaces.

I like the direction this game is taking, I'll probably buy it.

But please, let go of the 4 blocks restriction. Let us have filler buildings, massive buildings and very high buildings too.

Also, let us have slums! You know, like Soviet towns with monster tenement buildings. I know this aims to recreate American towns, but the concept of "residencial areas", or "suburbia" is a bit alien to me. Let us have choice. American suburbia, or rather European-like outskirts? A small town that got eaten by the big town nearby? Etc.

I cannot express how excited I am to:
1) Play a good city builder
2) That it's from the makers of one of my favorite games (Cities in Motion)
3) That it'll "more" than other things

This looks very interesting, me too have been longing for a good sity simulator for quite some time.

Just a question about the general aesthetics of the buildings. Will it be possible to go more European than North American visually? Get that "old world" feel to it so to speak.

We're going for a relatively neutral theme so that both we and modders can easily add more themed buildings :)

What about wharfs and beachfront boardwalks, or just buildings and whatnot that hit the shoreline? I would love to fill in the shoreline next to the city with restaurants, cafes and tourist shops, like in a real city.

I would like to see stuff like this;

Rather than this (at least all the time, i dont want the shoreline to immediately disappear into concrete, but options to do so yourself);

An important part of building cities that unfortunately are forgotten in many city-building-games. I really hopes that they'll include this feature as soon as possible.

I didnt pay too much attention to the caption where i got the picture, but i believe its somewhere in Florida, USA.

Yes, exactly! that kind of stuff just looks so much better than empty land in a big city.

*EDIT* And let us not forget the previous request for buildings larger than 4 block in from the road, thats very important to me as well.

*EDIT... AGAIN* As I can imagine procedurally generating that kind of stuff might be difficult, how about a wharf 'road' tool that we can zone special commercial buildings designed to fit along it that look beachfront like, that we cant use along regular roads. These special shorline tools would be very popular, if implemented correctly.
