It occurred to me that it might be interesting to have a comparison how long the first month takes on different PC configurations. Just for the sake of the knowledge how fast your comp is and If it is worth thinking about upgrading.

Conditions:
Just start up the game as Ger, click on the button to start time and increase the speed to maximum. If any pop-up message appears, close it immediately (some of them might cause that the time would stop). Don’t go through any windows so that you didn’t influence the speed.

My result:
3 min. 50 sec.

Config:
M1710 Core 2 Duo Processor T7400 (2.16 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB)
512MB DDR3 nVidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX
Memory Dual-Channel 2048MB (2x1024) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Edit: year 1936

Edit: after 1.2:

3min. 25 sec.

Edit: after 1.2 (trees off, fancy water off, simplified mapmod):

2min. 30 sec.

How fast is Hoi3 going for you now?

The title says all. I'm getting now, a 3-4 second a day in 1936, but in 1939 it still runs a bit sluggish.

The game loaded in 1/3 of the time that it used to. It also runs through the hours much faster, but it is still a bit laggy, hardly noticable.

just wait until u guys advance a year or 2! ive been runnin at hands off 1936 game and at first the speed improvement was great but from 1939 onwards it back to pre patch speeds again:eek:

its no game breaker but a lot more work still needs done on it. we're still a patch or 2 away yet from the best wargame ever.

Somehow this x seconds per day (x << 10 secs), tells me nothing. First, if you get involved into micromanagement it is completely irrelevant. Second, it is quite logical computer slows down once more units, battles = more computation enter the stage. If poor handling of the game's "swap file" is solved (can't be other reason for all those bottlenecks that require frequent save/reload - as reported) then it's ok if I get 15% speed reduction when battle heats up.

I'd like to know though, from PI, more detailed requirements for the graphic card, maybe even a list of popular cards with no reported issues. Because, while processor overload slows things down, I'm pretty sure there are bugs with the graphic/gui part and these are certainly going to be responsible for many of the crashes and loss of performance. Especially since I've seen that happen with other PI titles.

i think game runs faster now, but still has some memory leaks that cause the game to slow down as you play. I played from 36 to almost 38 and started to get enough interface lag to save and quit. Just restart and that lag is gone, its much better than 1.1 thou

If you compare the vanilla 1.1c with 1.2 there is definitely a performance improvement. But if you take the old (by the community modded) ai_foreign_minister.lua and ai_intelligence_minister.lua there is still a higher speed performance for my system (2x1.6 ghz, 2 gig DDR2 RAM @ 666mhz, Geforce 7400 go, WinXp Sp3). And the light interface lag by changing the different windows for production, diplomacy etc. is still there.

But the patch brought for my system some really good improvements, too:

- after 2 years playing the game doesn't become slower (the memory leak seems really to be fixed)

- scrolling and zooming at highest game speed leads to much lesser lag as before (if I play minors there is hardly ever lag).

I know my system isn't really uptodate, but I think with the 1.2 patch and some further performance improvements it will run almost perfect. :)

PS: I didn't had any problems with crashes or destroyed save games. Neither with patch 1.1c nor with 1.2.

How to explain that someone has 5x speed increase and some has 2x speed increase after 1.2?
Does that mans that slower machines got more benefit form 1.2,or faster one,or is this just subjective?

It's a lot faster than before, and it's faster for longer than before. ;-) Got to Mid-1937 in the same time I used to take to get to April 1936.
