Finished my first game. Played the Date.
I played on an easy difficulty if i remember correctly. But i didn't get curbstomped. HOWEVER the game does not seem to take long at all, which is dissapointing. The biggies blob quickly and then suddenly... the game ends.

I am positive about the following things:

1) Love the flavor and i like the Crusader King edge without going as extreme as CK dynasty option-wise. (it was a bit over the top in CK.
2) The system is fluid, investing in infrastructure easy. I like it.
3) Battle, the retinues, the way to divide vasals, grant titles etc is well done. A smoother less complex CK. Which appeals to me.

However:

1) Game length needs to be increased dramatically. It ends far too soon.
2) More flavorful events are a must!

Darth, you can go into >common>defines file and text edit the end date. I've changed mine to 1860, shortly before the Meiji Restoration in 1866/7 started, and the end of it's feudalism.

A game should end long before that, though, by a clan gaining the Shogunate but you never know. I like to feel less time pressure and just concentrate on my enemies, not the clock. Thus far, everything works fine with the minor edit.

I think most everyone is crying for more events, along with a few other things. Considering how much better condition this one's in, I have high hopes for what can be added.

Actually i didn't mean literally the 'date'. It merely ends too soon due to the rapid blobbing of 2-3 factions. One guy got a massive lead and then... it all ends. That's it. Barely got to do anything.
Conquest needs to be slowed somewhat I think. Though your modification to 1860 is a good idea.

Would be a 'fun' addon in the future to have a bakufu addon. If you're in the lead and win the first round you get a lot of powers and privileges but you need to maintain order and stability, keeping revolts down etc. Would be fun adding this bit of 'be Shogun' - 'Stay Shogun' edge. It could even deepen out the Japan - Outsiders element in the game.

Interesting idea. If you change VICTORY_CONTROL_PERCENTAGE = 50 and SHOGUNATE_CLAIM_MONTH = 36 in the define.lua file, it could be possible with some decisions and events.

The game to my own experience collapses fast. The main cause in my book is that bigger and bigger clans are at the moment way too stable to take a pause in the conquest process.

With honour and money flowing, it is straight onwards. Also much better to focus on medium clans once big as they will provide much more land for the same price in honour than to focus on the myriad of small clans. Securing hostages, lowering honour etc... will secure peace and avoid being flanked.

The start is nice but the critical mass to steamroll the map is reached quite fast.

I agree to that. In my games, I played so far, (about six) either Shiba, Kono, Hatakeyama or Uesugi got too strong too quickly. It was a lot of fun to find ones standing, but without massive and aggressive expansion right from the start, you barely stand a chance to win this game. Maybe that is where the plot come in, but they have not yet worked fine for me - I was invited to a plot against Uesugi once, who were rather big and powerful, but got killed off quickly when they found out about the plot.

There are some bug fixes to be done. From what I understand there are some minor issues with Plots and some AI threat assessment.

If nothing else, and you can't get a plot going (the usual case), just do your best to drain a blob's Honor with ninjas. If done regularly, you can kinda restrict them from doing too much. If you catch them at the right time, earlier in the game, after they WarDec someone and are almost at 25 Honor.. that's the time to give them the Ninja dishonor. I actually got one nearby growing rival's clan leader to commit seppuku doing this when he hit -2 Honor. Goodbye, Dr. Jones! :ninja: His underage son took over and the guy's vassals became a bit unhappy. If I wasn't warring elsewhere, I'd keep chipping away at the boy's vassals next.

Anyway, let's see what the bug fixes to the game mechanics do in the first update before doing anything drastic. We need to see how it works when all the ones and zeros are lined up correctly, then look at game balance. Yes?
