For those of you still waiting for the game, I can assure you that it is well worth the wait. It is the best strategy game ever. Period. But you all knew that already.

My primary gripe is with the lack of documentation about customized setups. Those who have not been reading this forum will not be aware that you can play as any country you want with a little data file tinkering. This is actually one of the game's best features, so I'm disappointed that Paradox didn't do more to make the in-game setup more flexible or at least to provide some official guidance on customization. As it stands now, there is not a single scenario that focuses on the Mediterranean; in fact, Venice is not available as a playable power at all in the German version. Setting aside the Civilization-like fantasy scenario, you can only play as France, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Prussia, Russia, England, Turkey, Austria, Poland or the Netherlands. So I hope there are some more scenarios forthcoming…

In any case, I would appreciate it if someone from the Paradox or beta team would point me in the right direction with regard to customizing the data files so that I can be the first to write an AAR as Switzerland. : )

Well.. after working on this project for almost three years and pouring my heart into it, i can say that I really really love reading such comments :)

In any case, I would appreciate it if someone from the Paradox or beta team would point me in the right direction with regard to customizing the data files so that I can be the first to write an AAR as Switzerland. : )

I'll see if we can put together a webpage for describing the process next week.

Perhaps Paradox will release the Venetian scenario after a period of time to the public, or for a small fee, with a collection of other scenarios ;)

Or perhaps do your own after Paradox answers some of your questions regarding customization.

I'll be back in a few hours and I'll explain how to play Helvetia in the GC unless another beta testers answers first... oh man you really started a hard one didn't you :)

To do it quickly, basically you go into the grand campaign.eug file (in your scenarios folder there, pal), open it up, and edit one of the placings. For the sake of this example, say France, which I think is titled 'FRA', re-name it to HEL (which I think is the short for Switzerland / Helvetia). Now edit the stats to your personal preference.
The eug file is read-only, so you may want to make another copy of it, say 'grandcampaign-hel.eug', remove the read only property and edit the stats.

Hmm 1500 threads.

Hey Johan,

You should be sipping cocktails in Hawaii at the moment. Is this what you programmers call a 'holiday' ? :D
