In 1091 finally got the Immortality quest line to succeed! Generally it ends **ahem!** badly. Once I was reincarnated, but was dead regardless. The rest of the time I was simply dead.

So it looks like I'll be playing pretty awesome character. All the artifacts stack, and I've worked on getting good traits and eliminating bad ones. He was the favorite son of the previous emperor, and for once the genius son didn't die or have some horrible event take him out. Sure he is 69 years old, but he'll be that old forever. He is elderly but handsome (some characters are NOT).

I thought his sons would be annoyed, but it is interesting that I don't see an opinion hit. Don't they realized that if good ol' dad is immortal that their chances of being Emperor are somewhat reduced?

Now that I'm back from a CK2 hiatus I see I can build monuments too - way too much fun! Constantinople is going to be pretty darn awesome under the guidance of the Immortal Basileus Konstanios IV the Inquisitor of the Roman Empire!

Nice, congratulations! :)

Could you post a screenshot with your character page, preferrably with the pointer hovering over the artifact modifier list so we can see that as well? Would be cool to see! :)

By the way, your immortality is supposedly kept secret (though everyone can see the trait, so go figure!). Vassals can start suspecting that you are immortal once you reach age 70, and the risk increases at ages 100, 150, 200, and 300. Any non-immortal vassal who has Intrigue 12 and an opinion of you less than 50 can begin to suspect.

Once the event fires it will tell you that someone is suspecting you, but not who. They gain a -40 opinion modifier toward you so it's usually pretty easy to find them. You should kill them ASAP, because as long as they are alive they can spread the suspicions. The suspicions can also develop into hate, which increases the opinion malus from -40 to -80, and can make the realm pretty hard to rule!

The suspicions event seems pretty rare. I only had it pop one time for me*. At the time only one vassal had below 50 opinion of me, so it was very easy to know who the culprit was. :) I put a murder plot in motion immediately, and since you'll likely have a huge long reign bonus with the other vassals it is usually over and done with pretty quickly! :)

*Granted, the immortality event does not happen too often, and does not succeed all that often either, so I've only had a handful of immortal rulers in my over 2,000 hours of play.

Thanks for the tips!

A number of the positive traits were there before being Emperor (ambitious, brawny, Midas from his dad, scar, diligent, brave, cynical), but the others were through events. He lost a few (brave, cynical). For instance, the Immorality event gave me Just. He's ruled for 32 years. He has 15 kids (one every 3.5 yrs), 4 boys and 11 girls. The kids keep dying of disease or getting burned at the stake by their husbands - but a 2/3 survival rate for the kids is likely decent.

Oh man, you are one lucky bastard! Got both Genius and Born in the Purple that you can't really acquire no matter how long you live. :) And then Diligent, Ambitious... This basileus will be a lot of fun to play! :)

Man, if I were you I'd consider converting to a raiding culture once you've ruled a bit longer and have a long enough reign bonus to make the foreigner malus a non-issue. Since you can always move your capital back to the de jure you could just move capital to a raiding culture province, convert, and move the capital right back. Imagine the artifacts you could stack up going raiding. :) Then just convert back to Greek if you need to at a later date. :)

Btw, I notice that you are emperor of the Roman Empire yet not Roman culture. How come? I have only restored the empire once, and that was years before the Holy Fury release, so I don't know all that much about Roman culture and how it works.

I kept Greek because the Greeks restored the Roman Empire, so they deserve to be the dominant culture. In other words - role playing. My capital is in Constantinople too -- not that broken-down backwater of Rome.

I only marry geniuses if I can help it. So that improves the chance of having genius offspring. And if you have LOTS of offspring then one or maybe to are genius sons. Now that I can pick my son with the Byzantium/Roman government type getting a genius/good heir is a bit easier. Sometimes the first born is a duffer...

Ah, makes sense with the culture, then. :)

You know, I actually avoided moving my capital to Rome as well when I restored the Empire. I mean, the tech there is going to be crap compared to what you have in your home province, so what's the incentive to move? I wish they'd made the tech transfer over with the decision or something.

Wait a minute here...

It is 1105 and my immortal character has cancer. Will this kill my character, or do I have cancer forever?

I've never had an immortal character before, so I really don't know.

Also, he has not had any kids in the last 14 years even though he and his wives are fertile. Do immortal characters sire children?

You'll generally have cancer forever pretty much, though there is a rare event that it can go away on it's own.

As for the children you can only have 10 legitimate children at a time. If you do somehow manage to get more (eg. legitimizing bastards) then the game will start to kill off other children until it gets you back to 10.

It happened to me as well. Don't worry after a few decades your character will just "get better". You are also immune to the black plague. Even rabies can't kill you. I think it is hard coded that no matter how low your health gets even with the +10, you just CAN'T die of anything else but a physical injury.

You will never die from disease as an immortal, but you may have to live with it for a long time. :(

Cancer goes away by random event. The MTTH (mean time to happen) for that event is 200 years, so you may be in for a wait... The wait time is halved at health 7, and halved again at health 8. No way to tell your health except by looking at the save file or if not on ironman, through "charinfo"

The only other way to get rid of it that I know of is to join the devil worshippers and use dark healing. I once had a character go infirm literally months before he became immortal. Rather than live that way forever, possibly going incapable after a while, I bit the bullet and joined the psychos. Got healed, then left almost right after and returned to the Hermetics.
