Well, I started in Ireland in Tyrone. Aed ruled for 21 good years, had three daughters, and went on a marriage binge getting wives and husbands for his offspring and court, entertained Hedge Knights three times, then went to war with one neighbor after fabricating a strong claim, who he defeated in three battles, though he lost one, and captured the enemy castle. The enemy earl died, and Aed had the man's son assassinated (blaming it on a lone archer!) - leaving the county of Ty (something or other, the one to the left of Tyrone) with a 6 year old heir. So far so good. Then disaster struck. Aed died at the age of 57. His daughter Sabd, took the reins, but the court did not like her. Then the pope excommunicated her on the word of the earl of Ulstur, who then allied with someone else and attacked. Sabd's reign lasted a mere 11 months.

God that felt quick - and even though I lost I enjoyed it. Guess I'll have to start again, hehe.

It does feel good to be beaten :) by AI.

Secured succession should be the first thing to look after. I usually marry midas touched, lustfull hedonist wife if there are no heirs present. And be carefull not to be involved personally in battles, because a club in the head off ruler without good successor is not a nice thing to happen.

The first problem I stumbled in my first game was succession mechanics and vassal relations. After the death of the first ruler, the younger brother of the heir led a succesfull rebellion. Result: From king to count.
