Hi everybody,

In my current first EU3 DW game, I am playing as Spain. It is almost 1600, and I focused in colonization, so from Florida to Argentina are mine.
On the other side, almost forgot about european policy. Ottomans are huge and my most powerful neighbour is Burgundy.

My question is the following, Burgundy and me have a similar land tech level, but if we go to war they wipe my armies off, even if I go to battle with twice
soldiers than them.

I will try to post the savegame also, with the hope that somebody could tell me what is my problem in land wars, and if you have time, what did I wrong and how
should I continue my game.

Thank you so much!

I have not looked at the savegame, but similar is not equal or better. My guess is, that they have slightly better units, more morale and a leader perhaps. Troop balance might also be a factor. Scorched earth tactics can also work.

What exactly is similar level? 1 level below them, 2, 3? That's a big difference.
You did upgrade your unit types when you unlocked them right?
Army composition might also play a role, I believe

Can't look at the save atm, but that's some stuff from the top of my head

I took a quick look at your save (uploading some relevant screenshots for other people who can't be bothered to download it http://imgur.com/cR8LLgD,tKdPp0u,b9MQidN,TCTmOwJ,dtFx1la#0)

Burgundy is at land tech 22 while you are at 21. If you hover your mouse over the land tech slider you'll see that you'll gain a whooping +0.5 morale at land tech 22, so Burgundy already has a pretty big morale advantage. On top of that they have military drill (+1.0 morale) while you have glorious arms (?). Burgundy also has incredible sliders focused on land warfare and a slightly better free subjects (small morale boost) slider.

My suggestion to you is:
swap glorious arms for military drill ASAP
get your inflation under control
all of burgundian north africa is uncored and they have a WE of 10.10 - take advantage of that
move your sliders towards quality and offensive
get a bigger fleet to protect against pirates and maximize your income from tariffs

lvl 22 land tech gives you a much better cavalry unit as well-do you have lucky nations on? are they DotF? do they have lots of vassal allies? you should play austria or burgundy in your next game, to get used to diplomacy/HRE mechanics....

Thank you very much! you helped me a lot to understand the mechanics... it seems that I deed a very bad election with glorious arms...
swaping this has an stability cost of 3. Better will start a new one with a HRE country, probably Austria.
