I started my first real Victoria 2 game (all expansions, it was in 75% off sale), and while I have achieved number one status in the late 1800s as Great Britain failed due to a Prussian, French, Austrian coalition, then Austria got destroyed by France Prussia and Russia, losing Great Power status (from second to 12th) and finally France, the overwhelming number one got wrecked by me Prussia and Great Britain, I still have some issues. Admittedly I did use a couple of minor cheats (I didn't know what infamy was and fired a decreasing event twice, as well as switching to the CSA to ensure victory in the Civil War, as Id stupidly given all states slavery thinking it would increase northern consciousness and allow me to avoid the war entirely) but here are my biggest issues.

-I declared war on the Dutch hoping to take Guyana and get close enough to colonize during the 1870s scramble for Africa. However they immediately called in Spain who hadn't even been their ally, but Prussia came up big in destroying their continental armies and leaving me free to take Cuba, Guyana and some of the East Indies from both countries. While Cuba almost imeldiatwly became a state, I seem unable to make Alaska or the territories of northwestern Canada that I colonized a state as it costs too much, or get the ability to make my Colonial territories (now including formerly French Ethiopia and Siam states. I know I need my accepted cultures but it appear impossible to get immigration to colonies outside America. Why is Guayana not receiving immigration if it's locked to America?
-Also the first Great War occured and me, Prussia and Russia destroyed Scandinavia Frnace and the UK, but although I'd taken several French colonies I was unable to add war goals and it ended within a year due to Russia's overwhelming military power and I got nothing. Did I actually gain somethig from this, because the second war has already begun and I hope it's not a waste of my time. (There were only a Cooke years between Great Wars, is this WAD?)

a great war is any war involving 2+ GP's on the sides, so depending on the powers involved you can easily have 2 back to back.

and you need jingoism to add wargoals, you didnt have any, so you cant add any.

if you want a easy tiume colonizing africa, go for sokoto. nobody cares about it and it gives you immediate access to several great african regions once the scramble kicks off

Ah the jingoism thing explained why I couldn't add war goals. I forgot to mention that I basically missed out on the Scramble though as my war with Netherlands/Spain took years and within only a couple the entirety but Eritrea (how ironic) was colonized. I did take Somalia from France and proceeded to take Ethiopia, but I basically was too slow and am now focusing solely on Asian domination. I already managed to colonize most of the islands in the Pacific before Japan industrialized and became a superpower. However, I seem unable to attract immigrants to my colonied and there's really no industrialization

just build industry in your homeland, its where the industry is suppossed to be in new imperialism

the empire is a living being - the heart is the homelands, the colonies the things keeping the heart beating
