The development time is too short to have both done well in one DLC.
I'm with you there.I'm thinking espionage before trade, tbh. Though Currency of Shadows still works really well for just that![]()
Superweapons, while very cool, don't seem to me like they're enough for a full DLC expansion on their own. Not one of the first one or two anyway. Would rather see them as a component of some larger expansion, or else just as a minor DLC on their own but definitely an espionage DLC and then a trade DLC would be my preferences for the first couple of expansions. Not really too fussed about the trade myself to be perfectly honest, but there seem to be a lot of people who are very keen for one. I also agree with @ashbery76 that trying to jam both into one would likely result in neither getting the depth they require and deserve. I'd really like to see what the devs could do with a really well fleshed out subterfuge DLC.I believe I heard something about a super weapons DLC so that may be the first (not visual) DLC

Dear god yesA trade DLC should be the Rules of Acquisition![]()
Yeah, maybe old-timey books and movie titles, or names of popular concepts if copyright is too much of a issue.Sort of a generic, boring name for a DLC. Would prefer DLC names that pay homage to the big sci-fi settings.

That's not entirely true though is it? They can trade lump sums of minerals and energy with other empires. They can set up repeating transactions of monthly payments of those resources too. They can even exchange rare resources with others, star charts, star systems, research agreements and migration pacts. On release we will have alien species who are Peaceful Traders who lack the ability to trade which is just a bit non-sensical.
You. I like you. I've never even watched a single episode of Star Trek, and I know this reference.A trade DLC should be the Rules of Acquisition![]()
However, espionage and subterfuge systems are conspicuously absent altogether. Something that many have taken note of. The only reason I can think of for there not being even a meagre espionage system is that they didn't want to half-arse it for release and will instead dedicate a full DLC to it. And surely the aspect of the game that doesn't exist at all should be created before just fleshing out a feature that's already there?
