Please, don't do another Diplomacy, don't blame EU2 with such horrible ideas about the 3D-game style stuff and the willingness to be attractive to X-Box users. They will never play a game like this one, and in case you achieve it, it will be at the cost of losing plenty of old disappointed fans like me.

I've talked in plural because I know and I feel that we are a lot of EU2 fans waiting in silence, scared because It seems you learned nothing about your Cathastrophic Diplomacy and that this EU3 will be the laugh of the games world just like Diplo is.

So the game must suck big time as you have with their previous title decided that you will hate the graphics of their next title :rolleyes:

I would rather have seen a 2D map but will definitly buy and enjoy this game, just as long as they make it a stable engine without the trademark paradox CTD i will be more than happy.

Like some have said already, letting the user adjust the vertical exaggeration would be good. Also, I would use a more detailed height map, to really get the mountain range feel, lots of little bumps and peaks instead of big rolling giant-hills. If I could set the vertical exaggeration, it would probably be around 5 (go for the accurate "relief map" feel).

I highly recommend taking a look at how Galactic Civilizations II does its 3-D interface. As you zoom out with the scroll-wheel, it seemlessly transitions from 3-D render to 2-D icon map, letting you see all the relevant details. It's beautiful, totally seemless, and smooth.

But you just can't do that by just looking at the first screenshots, they don't tell really anything about the gameplay. I was pretty worried of the candy-like up-close and personal screenshots of units that were the first ones to be released from CivIV. But I knew that they had nothing to do with gameplay and didn't bother myself too much and in the end they produced a very deep game that has also nice graphics which improve gameplay.

Once Paradox has produced the first public screenshots the look usually doesn't change that much...traditionally (I may be wrong, but that is how I remember it). I agree however that it is too early to judge by anything, but we are entitled to question something we feel could be done better, this forum is for discussions after all, and we are all here because we like or have a devotion to the great games this company produces. Furthermore it is no 'elitist' thinking if one wants a 2d map, its just what some favors, and it would be the same to diss all in defence of Paradox as 'fanboys' - as silly.

As far as the CoA is concerned i think it looks, i dunno, a bit plastic like, too smooth.
I would have preferred it if they'd used something like the, excellent, EGUFSM shields.

EDIT: Adding some woodgrain to the shield would also improve it IMO.
EDIT2: Oh and perhaps some wear and tear on the pennant (would be a nice touch if that could be related to the fortunes of your country)
