I actually plan to move quite a bit on ethics axis during my first game, though I will definitely remain spiritualist as I'm keen on trying out the new mechanics for psionics.

I'll play my first empire again, the Qiramulan Holy Mandate. Fanatic pacifist, spiritualist with an oligarchic government. Now that we know all civics I decided to start out with Aristocratic Elite and Exalted Priesthood. No weapons on board of my ships... :D

Confederated Tribes of Mireesh, a pacifistic fanatically spiritual bunch of stone age to bronze age Tribes that one day were saved from disaster by a 'holy bird' and as such, United to seek out their god by delving into every avenue of exploration and science that they can. Clearly, they will want to meet every species, every Guardian, Every fallen empire, and look into every dimension for their lost saviors.

That being said, I have a tendency to play tall, so this Expansion has me extra excited anyway. I like the idea of being a small to medium sized empire that has much more power or influence then borders suggest.

Since I can finally have a spiritual empire without any religious overtones and not be democratic my authority is gonna be oligarchic, civics are gonna be: meritocracy and... something. Agrarian idyll, cutthroat politics, idealistic foundation and free haven all appeal. I might take imperial authority, ditch meritocracy and have philosopher king instead. Ethics will be spiritualist, obviously, and pacifist since I always wind up playing like one even when I don't take the ethic and egalitarian maybe, depending on how it's phrased. And I am going to be so tol.

Authoritarian, militarist, xenophiles. Citizen Service and another undecided civic. Oligarchy. Strong, charismatic, decadent.

The concept is a strict military oligarchy that is absolutely convinced they have the perfect society. They intend to bring the wisdom of their way to everybody they meet.

Playstyle wise I am going to conquor/vassalize empires with opposing ethics and alliance/federation with similar ethics. I want to play to as much of the ethics attraction mechanics of my 3 ethics as I can. So lots of war, multiple species on every planet and authoritarian policies. I will go bio ascend and with the variety of species on every planet be able to hard customize each for the tiles they occupy.

I'm actually not sure. My very first empire was a benevolent monarchy, and I'm wondering if those really work/exist any more. -- had pacifist/xenophile/materialist. I imagined them as terraformers and wonder builders, and utopia should make that far more possible. Possibly biological ascendency.

Alternatively the spiritual ascension path looks very interesting, so playing some sort of (relatively nice) spiritualist is high on the list. (Giving warp monsters deals I'll save for later plays.)

My problem is that Ethos based that is what I would like to play as well. Problem I insist on Earth/humans: My concern is Isnt Pacifist immersion breaking for humans?

Fanatic pacifist, egalitarians. They turned their world into a tomb world about 2200 years ago. The few million survivors were forced into shelters and what you. There a sort of scatter shot approach to genetic engineering started to make themselves able to survive on the surface again. Roughly a 1000 years before game start they could once again live on the scorched surface of their once beautiful home, slowly rebuilding what was, but better. Now they stand at the cusp of interstellar exploration determined never to make the same mistakes again.

I'll use the console to turn my homeworld into a Tomb World and give my species the Irradiated trait. I'll go heavily into Unity, expand quickly in the beginning so I can have a decent chunk of space to consolidate in. I'll go with habitats and mega structures, maybe the first Synthetic Ascension perk, I don't really see them going Biological Ascension (being somewhat turned of of genetic engineering) nor do I see them going full robot.

The +2 core worlds for Enlightened Monarchy will be built into the pacifist ethos along with a tasty +20% unity. But I haven't seen a trait that handles edict duration and the only one I've seen that affects edict cost is...

Imperial Cult -33% edict cost, makes ruler title "God Emperor" Authoritarian, Spiritualist, Imperial Authority

not going to work for Materialists. Sorry. I'm afraid I don't think you'll be able to recreate your preferred government type perfectly. On the other hand... the best way to rush wonder building is to focus your government onto unity production and.

Agrarian Idyll Farms now produce 1 Unity Pacifist, not Authoritarian

will be very powerful for wide play and early ascension perk rushing, and will be reasonably powerful for tall play later. You're not looking to play authoritarian just use an imperial government so this would be available to you.

If you're willing to specialize further and are open to tweaking your government in significant ways.

Inwards Perfection +30% Unity, +5% Happiness for citizen pops Pacifist, Xenophobe

Is excessively powerful, though it forces you into a very suboptimal play strategy and is clearly directly opposed to your desire to be xenophilic.

Beacon of Liberty +15% Unity Egalitarian, Democratic Authority, not Xenophobe

If you're willing to give democracy a try and replace xenophillic with a level of egalitarian this would have very nice synergy with a pacifism government and Agrarian Idyll.

If not willing to change your government.

Mechanist Start the game with 4 Robot pops plus tech to build more Materialist, no Syncretic Evolution Civic

This seems right for materialistic builders, and will take the sting off of not having authoritarian to let you use slaves.

Efficient Bureaucracy +2 Core Sector Systems -

This is also very powerful for pacifists early game. Taking your pacifism bonus from +2 to +4.

Proper Feudal Empire

"Just like hands are made to work and the head is made to lead, so must everyone know his natural place in society"
from Words of the Holy Turtle

Sea-Adventures-Explore-the-depths-of-the-sea-in-Malaysia_04.jpg

Once in our glorious past lived people in a proper and natural order. Everyone had it's place, serfs were protected and guided by knights, merchants made profit in name of the holy turtle while priests studied his writing. Everyone obeyed the holy turtles replacement on land, the Holy Emperor!

"When the hands thought they should voice opinions, when the head started to listen to the hands, became they all so confused that they even killed their babies before they were born!" from Words of the Holy Turtle

But then came the age of shame, people turned away from the wisdom from the depths, people started to ignore the natural order! Serfs became owners of their lands, workers demanded luxury, priests were ignored or corrupted. Even the Holy emperor become a pure ceremonial figure!

Confusions, depression and stress were the results, many people didn't found a place in society at all. Many turned to debauchery others engaged in all kinds of random violence. Live became meaningless, many killed themselves, even more prevented the birth of babies because they lost all hope in the future!

But the holy turtles was cunning and patient. "Go live in cities near the coast" whispered the holy turtle to the disbelievers, while the true believers stayed in the heartlands, then the endless ice begun to melt. The holy turtle also understood that wisdom came with age.

"Let less babies be born until the wisdom of the elders can defeat the heresy of the youth!" from Words of the Holy Turtle

The survivors in the heartlands understood what they had to do to restore the natural order of the holy turtle. Slowly was everyone moved to his proper caste, females again learned to obey males, priest were revered again and the emperor his power was restored! The glorious renaissance of the holy turtle had begun, it is now our task to spread this to the entire galaxy.

"The words of the holy turtle are the very definition of truth, any observation, logic or experiment that disagrees is by definition a lie" from Words of the Holy Turtle

Nice advice Sheriff, thanks.

Pacifist humans: they've existed, it's just that things tend to end badly for them. :) Certainly there have been nations which didn't want external war. Take the Tokugawa Shogunate, for example. People think "Samurai!", but after a while the Samurai were mostly a glorified adminstrative class with marginal military skills, and they didn't go to external war with anyone for a couple centuries. One can make a case for Tibet, and for certain periods of Chinese hegemony, where they really weren't interested in conquering outsiders.

Probably these guys first, to do my 'Robots are Superiour' playthrough.

Not sure about the Civics yet. I definitely plan on going the aggressive route, and who better to do it with than natural metalheads?

I think I'll try multiple playthroughs as fanatic materialists, since the synthetic ascension appeals the most to me.
One playthrough will be like a cult, where the organics seek to "become godlike" and shed off their fleshbag prisons. Eventually, they will seek to turn the rest of the galaxy into machines as well (basically becoming another AI crisis). Fanatic materialist/militarist.
Another playthrough my empire will be ruled by aristocrats/royalty, who seek AI tech as a means to make themselves (and their servants) immortal. They will be pretty snobbish though, with a caste system in place. Fanatic materialist/authoritarian.
A final playthrough will be a democratic playthrough (probably a consensus). They will be like the "Democratic Crusaders" AI personality, only they will seek to free AI populations from their forced servitude to organics. They will free organize enslaved to other organics, but their main goal is to be a safe haven for all synthetics in the galaxy.
I might try a few psionic ascension playthroughs, but I'm not too sure how I want to try that out.

variant of the Commonwealth of Man with Syncretic Evolution to represent a native alien species on Unity, the natives would be organized into a caste system(not sure if I'm going to let them have leadership positions), from there I'll let POP ethic drift see where the CoM end up on the xeno-phile/phobe axis.

the "Philosopher King Dictator" civic to boost leader skills.

voidborn perk for space habitats will be a must, and eventually I will go after Ringworlds and Dyson Spheres, but I don't know if I want to go after biological or synthetic ascension... or nether.

I guess whether or not you allow them leadership would probably be determined by how disgusting they turn out to be, being randomly generated and all. Who wants to give rights to space fungi? :)

I'll play militarist, spiritualist, authoritarian with the catlike phenotype. The civics will be Warrior Culture and Cutthroat Politics.

So its a society were battle is holy and wantet by the gods. The State is ruled by big rivaling clans. The clanleaders get highly idolized and are seen nearly as untouchable as the gods.
