Fanatic collectivist, spiritualist bio-ascension. My main race will have agrarian, and rapid breeders to start(to set up my economy) then I'll use the bio-ascension gene points/traits to make a conquered primitive race into super-slaves while my main race focuses on energy and research. Maybe I'll make a livestock race too.

All the economy you need to conquer the galaxy :D

I'm going to create The Culture, seems fitting for the banks update. I'm torn between fanatic materialist - egalitarian or fanatic egalitarian - materialist.
I'm going to pick the mega engineers perk, voidborn, and probably the first synthetic ascension perk, but I don't think it would be fitting to take the second one.
Utopian living standards of course and a lot of habitats

I might play my "Mostran Order" Spiritualist, Xenophobe, Pacifists. Oligarchic Government form propably, or might go Dictatorial.

The Mostran are an Avian like Alien race who follow a Spiritual path of purity and self-discipline, they prefer to stay for themselves as they contemplate the great mysteries of the Universe and try to achieve a higher Spiritual understanding of exsistance itself.

I will bring proper civilisation to all the savages, and spread tea to the galaxy.

huh, ones of my empires is going to be a German Empire that won WW1. They have a constitutional monachy and have authoritarian, militarist and materialist. After WW1 Germany became the Head of a coalition of nations including the ottomans and the Russian empire, whom German Agreed to help them deal with the Communist uprising that took place. The Entente nations fell in political disarray, The War was mostly blamed on the UK and Americas and were forced to pay reparations, Itally and France were forced to disarm themselves. WW2 was a conflict around France taking over the distraught Britain and further expansions, blah blah blah. The German Coalition won and slowly the world joined into with the German Coalition, in which it was forced to change into a peace keeping force and would settle disputes between nations. The force that goes to the stars are ships directly under the control of the peace keeping force and eventually become the diplomatic representative of humanity.

Not 100% sure but I think I'll give my very first empire - with which I started on day one - another go. They are the Kadeer, a floating/flying race of molluscoids (the ones with the hovering portait). Having an organ that lets them sense the world on a sub-atomic level they have always been able to "see" what's going on in the world (although not being able to explain exactly why, of course) so they never felt the necessity to have supernatural beings/gods to explain nature. (=> Fanatic materialists, natural physicists). Floating around and being rather slow breeders, competition for territory or resources have never been an issue, so the Kadeer have no concept for war and even killing fellow Kadeer has happened only rarely in history. Also, Kadeer are able cover at least a part of their energy requirements by photosynthesis (I gave them the adaptive trait for that, not sure if i'll stick with that...) So, Kadeer at least start as pacifists - they don't disapprove of war as a matter of principle, it just never occured to them - let's see what lessons they will learn in a galaxy full of perils (and opportunities).

The Kadeer are driven by their quest to find their origins. The Kadeer homeworld is a desert world which is rather strange for molluscs. Already in their early days the Kadeer discovered that they seem to be somewhat different than the scarce fauna on their planet. More recent scientific breakthrough made them understand that this 'somewhat different' is more precisely their DNA. Which also holds evidence, that the Kadeer were modified to adapt to a desert climate - or maybe even to a range of different climates. Not believing in a deity of any description, they want to find out where they came from and who made the way they are.

The space fox empire of the Unified Chiaukesh Nations (fanatic materialist, xenophile). They were my first empire ever in Stellaris and fully built towards science. Naturally, they excel at it.
Banks/Utopia is giving so many new options though, I think they'll get the instant robots civic and will later pursue the synthetic ascension path (only going as far as being cyborgs though; they like their organic existence nonetheless). The Chiaukesh will also build Dyson Spheres, Science Nexi (is that the right plural?) and Ringworlds all over the place, and inhabit anything with their habitats.
Considering I'm always playing them as people who love knowledge, and always research their anomalies and events instantly no matter the risk, it could turn out to be interesting.

I'll probably start with the fanatic militarist, spiritualist, natural engineers military junta avians that I had so much fun with when the game was first released. I always envisioned this empire as being a bit of a caste system with warriors (like the Samurai in Japan) and engineers (the modern equivalent of swordsmiths) at the top.

As my name suggest I'm a big fan of Heinlein s starship troopers. My first creation will thus be the Military Republic. 2x Military, 1x Material with a system that only allows franchise rights in trade of military service. They won't take any of the ascension paths. While there is some bio engineering, psi (dog-human) and robots in the starship troopers universe, none of it is as extreme as the ascension. Looking forward to toy around with the other options to create a playable efficient empire that is true to the Terran Federation.

Afternoon that I look forward to play with Psi ascension in an enhanced religious xenophobic Worm Cult empire. (Hopefully utopia enhances unity enough to make it playable). I managed to get the empire work in vanilla by playing as a nice xeno - which feels contradictionary. I want to tell them I am the servant of the void :p

Tall spiritualists. I haven't decided on much else yet though.

Also, entirely off topic but do you know what would be nice? If there was an event if some galactic atrocity was taking place. Like a powerful empire starting to eat other species. Or genocide or slavery or making an entire species docile through gene-modding. Right now you know these things might be taking place based off their government/ethics/traits (I'm actually not sure if the AI does any of this) but actually having it be mentioned would add character and flavor, especially when you're at war with them.

"The Me'etlaupher empire has turned the entire planetary population of Bacconia into nutritional paste for their unstoppable armies!"

Not sure how many mods will be broken in utopia, but even without extra techs, I'm sure my die-hard researcher empire will manage fine without them. I mean, what are the chances of getting Tachyon lances on the playing field by year 70 again?
8D6129AAC24ECBDF82B98F367239F991C32CE8EC

My "little" blue guys. (Well, not so little, they'd be more or less human height, but a few inches taller on average) They are quite inquisitive in nature, and this has shaped the societies they have lived in. The Selendites are extremely devoted to the notion of broadening one's horizons. Be it for the good of all, allowing one to make great personal achievements, getting an edge on ones foes, or a futile attempt to satiate the gluttonous monster that is their curiosity. When it comes to relations, their natural curiosity grants them an affinity for other species, ever so eager to see how a new creature developed their way of life, what they can learn from this race to better themselves... and their method of population growth. Wait what? o_O

For personality, they are not like emotionless vulcans. They are polite, inquisitive, and find joy in their professionalism. However their warmness to others rings hollow, with no true comprehension of empathy or compassion. This emulation of warmth makes Selendites come off as detached or callous in their actions. They make for friendly neighbors and colleagues, but as judges they are cold and unfeeling. Despite what their foreign policy would imply, the lack of an ethical compass removes the many of the moral barriers that other species would have to spend time and resources to break down. Those that do go to war with them will *painfully* find out they don't really do proportional retribution.

Unlike most researcher based empires, they rarely use androids or synthetics. They'd rather spend their time crafting and molding flesh to suit their purposes. Selendites prefer uplifting primitives to be subservient members of their empire and using gene modding to enhance their own qualities, believing in the marvel of their own bodies.

2nd Game: Terran Imperium! Fanatical Xenophobe, Militarist ... fanatical purgers, of course. Absolutely devoted to military supremacy, independence, and securing the galaxy for humanity. :D

For some reason I feel compelled to play one side from the Utopia trailer - either the reptilian humanoid, going for a federation with the Yondarim and Scyldari; or the Commonwealth of Man, making the galaxy safe for Humanity. Whichever I pick I'll definitely go Voidborn and build ALL the megastructures.

Incidentally, does anyone else think Sidney Beauclair* sounds a lot like Marina Sirtis**? Ever since that trailer, Sirtis is my first choice for the role in my imaginary cast for my imaginary Stellaris space opera series. Other cast members include Hatsune Miku as Mercedes Romero, Steve Buscemi as every Scyldari, and Dennis Haysbert as the overlord of an evil Space Butterfly Fallen Empire.

* (the human narrator, I like to think of her as our glorious Grand Marshal)

Looking forward to toy around with the other options to create a playable efficient empire that is true to the Terran Federation.

Afternoon that I look forward to play with Psi ascension in an enhanced religious xenophobic Worm Cult empire. (Hopefully utopia enhances unity enough to make it playable). I managed to get the empire work in vanilla by playing as a nice xeno - which feels contradictionary. I want to tell them I am the servant of the void :p
