Yes, you are right. The naval challenge as Germany is great fun! You really need to take good care of your few capital ships and use naval bombers and subs to their maximum effect...

However, the micromanagement nightmare called Eastern front really put me off playing them most of the time... :wacko:

IMO its easier to play Germany than UK or US - you dont have to jump all over the world, here all is at 1 place. Other thing is that you can leave the whole East Front to the AI if you dont like it. I also dont like to play as winners. Its more challenging for me to play those who lost. US is not playable for me... to easy.

I agree with you about it is more fun playing the "loser"-countries of WW2 to see if you can make better than history. Of course, if you really are going to try the underdogs of HoI, you should try small countries like Siam, Persia or Cuba...

What is so appealing about Germany? I find Italy and Japan to be much more interesting Axis nations to play, because of their underdog status and the naval battles.

Personally i find the land part of the game much more fun than the naval part. And when it comes to land wars Germany is boatloads of fun.

Though i have to say one of the funnest games i played was as Poland.

I think you should try a land war with a minor. If you play Germany, you can afford some slack since you are so powerful anyway, but if you are very short on resources and military as a minor, every mistake can be disastrous, leading to a very tight experience where you need to play to the very best of your ability to survive...

I remember my first game with Germany in HOI1, where I was able to defeat SU with ~6 panzer divisions. Soviets stood with all their forces near my northern border, so I was able to take all their key cities without fight by southern one, and an ambush landing in Leningrad :rofl:

Define "important". What may be a minor obstacle for a major would be a heroic achievement for a minor, You just have to set your objectives a bit less ambitious...
