Nationalist China. I want a game where my offensives against Japan are always about to commence but are frustrated by perfidious communists, warlords, dissenting pols and Allied inattention. The current game makes Nat China too easy.

I'll have to admit that I'll work along the axis list first...
Germany, Germany, Germany and then Germany. After that I'll play Italy or Japan, then Hungary. And if i'm really fed up with axis I might even try a Yugoslavia one time

The USA. Always start there, in part because I feel I know the historic role better, and as it has become my "common denominator" country between versions and patches, I can better see the changes between the different versions. Also, you usually get to play with more of the goodies with the US.
In HOI I took Germany, In HOI2 I started with Italy, and I think the latter is one of the best choices. I always play with countries that were important in WWII. Moreover, Italy has nice navy, but isn't involved in many theaters of war. If I focus on Africa and Mediterranean first, I'll have time to learn new mechanics of this game.

What is so appealing about Germany? I find Italy and Japan to be much more interesting Axis nations to play, because of their underdog status and the naval battles.
Japan underdog? Whats your problem with Germany and peoples decisions. If they like they can play whoever they want. Not everybody have the same preferences as you.

Sure, i was just curious... Compared to Germany (and the USA), Japan is a serious underdog, don´t you think?
Well they were at war from middle 30's with the worlds 2 - 3 navy and great successes in the front,controling whole EA. Also their industry wasnt that bad - 5th in the world IIRC. Maybe they just wanted too much at 1 time, IMHO. I will for sure play as Japan but Germany is as always nr 1
Well, you do get the ones who are a bit too 'into' the SS...Generally I like to play Germany because of the naval challenge, there you really are the underdog!

Yes, you are right. The naval challenge as Germany is great fun! You really need to take good care of your few capital ships and use naval bombers and subs to their maximum effect...
However, the micromanagement nightmare called Eastern front really put me off playing them most of the time... :wacko:

2. is Japan.I hope US AI will be more capable oponent than in HOI II.
3. Italy..whatever you do you are more succesfull than Italy in real ww2,nice to see.
4.Great Britain.Poor old Empire found himeself under atack from every side.
