I always start with Germany, although i will probably make a lot of mistakes at first. Oh well. I'll at least try to build a decent Kriegsmarine, i love German fleet action. Then focus the German attention on the USSR, i m really looking forward to that. This game will be huge and i expect the fighting to be really tense and hard. More chance to get your nice German army units encircled and destroyed in the East im afraid.

After a German game, i surely try a Japanese one, love the Imperial Navy, cool battleships and carriers. Logistically an nightmare though with all these islands. Lets see how the US acts in the Pacific.

Then off course the Great Patriotic War. Nevermind navy or other expensive stuff, just build Red Army tanks, infantry, artillery and attack-aircraft and kick the $*&% out of those elite German armies. Steam all the way to the Channel.

I cant wait for HOI3, because its gonna be the greatest wargame out there.

Yeah I do that alot when I start new games as Germany. When I first tried out Hearts of Iron 2, Poland was actually kicking my butt in '39.

A bit early to start this discussion but alright...
I've always started (HoI1, 2, DD, Arma) as Germany.
Good learning curve on game mechanics and get to have a bit of conquering...

Probably Germany. I am most comfortable/familiar with Germany in HoI2... so to get an idea of all the changes I think that would be the best route. Next is USA, of course. I love making the USN into a huge force.

I`ll first try Bulgaria because its small and i will have lots of free time to think about the new things,discover them,see how everything works etc. .Later on when i got used to the interface and every major change i`ll play with Germany.

hmmm maybe ill play as a diffrent coutnry but im not the best playing as england
