So, I recently finished a one-tag/one-faith world conquest as Austria, and I decided I wanted to do something different for the variety and more of a challenge as I think Austria is probably the easy button of WCs. I don't have a lot of time in game yet (five or six campaigns total with only two going past 1530), but I thought this sounded like a fun challenge.

In the old days, you could get by without being Western and spending the 75 points on that, but apparently it's been fixed. I'm coming up with the ideas and would like some help as the only successful games like this I've seen are from a while back and have those extra 75 points to spend.

I'm thinking of starting in Chortli, right next to the Kiche although starting near Canada or in Brazil would get me the opportunity to move to the Old World a lot faster. Going north, I'd be stuck at Greenland for colonizing, but closer to what I need to conquer. Going to Brazil, I think I can get to West Africa. Conquering through Africa, I should be able to embrace the institutions a lot more quickly.

I've got an age 20 0/0/0 ruler with Malevolent, an age 0 0/0/0 heir, and a 0/0/0 consort with Loose Lips. That's worth -49 points, so I have 33 points to spend. Here's a look at my current idea set. I have enough points to make the last idea a level 2 or to move a couple of the ideas further up.

I think the set I have is decent, but I could use some help on the best ideas and where to put them. Any level 2 idea I move later in the chain means a few less points spent but also less time with the benefits. Unfortunately, I can't afford a colonist, so Exploration would be my first idea group. This will also be my first game with Mandate of Heaven (and Third Rome although that shouldn't matter), so any simple tips on that would be nice as well. I now have all DLC other than CoC.

Edit: The government is set up as a Despotic Monarchy although I could go with a Feudal Monarchy as well. Also, what culture might be good to use?

Hahahahah, only 2 or 3 campaigns past 1530 and you have a one tag/ faith wc. I have like 2100 hours and i dont even have an easy wc. Guess i'm bad. Anyway, i've heard the hardest part of norse is the amount of missionaries and the strength so i'd add a missionary and maybe up the strength from 0.5. But i've never tried, themeinteam and bbq would be the ones to ask as they are pretty awesome at new world shit

I haven't played a lot, but I've studied a ton and copied good players like you mention. Adding a missionary is impossible because of the point limitations, but more missionary strength is doable. Can you get Defender of the Faith with pagans?

I did exactly this run a few months ago, this is what I picked:

This was before absolutism so it would be easier now. As you can see most of my point spending on ideas was on the cheaper back-end; early on there's not that much development to take anyway. This is the lone game in the last few years I've taken expansion ideas, couldn't trust Europeans to colonize completely.

Even with boosts Norse is complete garbage for conversions so outside of the required area, I didn't even try. Late game just promote culture if necessary and otherwise simply micro to spam cathedrals in the provinces required to convert + picking religious late will get you there. Anyway there's a lot of margin for error so pick what you like.

There seems to be an unspoken rule not to use the points available, since your screenshot shows 47\800 spent?

I'm doing the same run currently, setup very similar to yours. Even without CoC you can take Feudal Theocracy as government for extra missionary strength and extra missionary, it's 15 points so my idea set is completely trash but I think it's a good tradeoff. You can also save some more points by making your ruler 25 years old and give him a second bad trait IIRC

Edit: as culture you can take Manchu to raise Banners as special units

Any chance you remember what exactly are the ideas and at what level? I can figure it out, but I only recognize a few of the icons.

Making him 25 with another bad trait isn't actually quite as low. The five years older is slightly more than the -2 from another bad trait. That said, there is a consideration to make him a little older so he dies a little sooner. I'm thinking to take the big prestige hit and kill off my heir early. I don't have to have the missionary until late, so I'd prefer the extra points on ideas over that much on a government, I think.

I wish I had that kind of memory!

From the screenshot it looks like dipannex and maintenance tradition, 10% morale, 5-10% tax, 10% infantry combat, minimum ticking WE, -1 unrest, 5% discipline, 10% arty combat ability, 10% core cost finisher.

I'm doubting that's optimal, though it barely matters for this one.
