Access the diplomatic screen when playing as a country which owns all or part of the territory of that nation you wish to release. At the bottom there will be a bar saying "release satellites". Click it, and then go through the list and release nations as satellites. Save and reload as that nation which will become playable by right-clicking the flag of the nation you played in your save game.

Russia typically releases Finland as a Satellite in 1860 (75% time) but you would find you'd be unable to play extensively as they would be unable to declare war on anyone but Russia, or conduct any diplomacy with anyone part from Russia, right up to 1919.

You could edit the event in 1860 to first of all ensure that Russia releases Finland, and also change make_satellite to independence to avoid being a satellite. Finally you could change the start date on the event to 1836 which would make it happen sooner.

Quite. Being called a "liar" is quite a severe thing in the English language. If it is a translation issue where "liar" isn't seen in the same light in another language, then it is something else, I guess.

As a third party observer, I must make an pointless comment about what has occurred in this thread.

Using "..., you liar" is not severe if you know the person who you are writing to and in informal situations. But even if eräjorma and Halk didn't know each other, the first thing that came to my mind when reading eräjormas post was that he was not serious and surely didn't mean any harm.

Also, OP didn't say anything about VIP or I don't think anybody would presume that he was talking about it as he doesn't seem to be experienced with Victoria.

There are a lot of little subtleties how one uses English language. Either it is the writers problem or the readers problem. In my opinion in this situation, the latter.
