I know this might not be important... But I can't seem to find a monarch table for Finland.

I was trying to make sure they could revolt in a fantasia-style scenario, but I can't find a table for them anywhere.

Is this normal or am I missing a file?

I searched "Builders Paradise" from the mods forum and it doesn't list any ids reserved for Finland stuff.

Weird.

It's like a Swedish Conspiracy ;)

They get a generic monarch using randomleaders.csv. You could make you're own fantasy set. Just follow the format of the other files. Make sure they have unique id's. (Check builders paradise to see which ones are free.) Paste that file in your monarchs folder and Finland will automatically draw it's monarchs from it.

Well, historically Finland didn't have any 'monarchs' before 1917, so there is nothing to draw historical monarchs from. With a bit of research, some fantasy monarchs, who would have their base in reality could be made.

And if one doesn't wish to bother, there is always a possibility to make a real fantasy monarch. Like:

historicalmonarch = {
id = { type = 6 id = XXXXX (change to a free number) }
name = "Lalli"
startdate = {
date = 1
month = january
year = 1750
}
deathdate = {
date = 1
month = january
year = 1820
}
DIP = 9
ADM = 9
MIL = 9
dormant = no
}

And no, I'm not biased. ;)

Is it a single, generic monarch, or does he get replaced eventually by a new generic monarch?

General governors could be used for 1809-1820, before that the king of Sweden would be used (with a finnic name, i.e. Kustaa III instead of Gustav III)
Plenty of countries in EU2 share the same kings with different names.

Feel up to the task of writing such a list?

Well, if we take swedish kings for time before 1809, it's a simple matter of copy / paste and translate.

Here are finnish versions of swedish kings of 1700-1809:
Karl XII = Kaarle XII
Ulrika Eleonora = Ulriika Eleonoora
Fredrik I = Fredrik I (Fredrik ain't a common given name in Finland)
Adolf Fredrik = Aadolf Fredrik (again, Aadolf ain't either)
Gustav III = Kustaa III
Gustav IV Adolf = Kustaa IV Aadolf
Karl XIII = Kaarle XIII
Karl XIV Johan = Kaarle XIV Juhana

These are the real monarchs only though. Sweden has too many alternate dynasties. :wacko:

From a site, which is unfortunately in finnish so I don't post it here, I found these names for general govenors during 1809-1820 (unfortunately dates missing)
1809 Yrjö Maunu (Georg Magnus) Sprengtporten
1809-1810 Mihail Barclay de Tolly
1810-1823 Fabian Steinheil

EDIT: They just need to get some values for them. To have reasonably historical values, some more research needs to be done. I can do it, if somebody expresses interest to have such.

Sprengtporten was a finnish military man, who went to serve Russia, after Gustav III was assasinated.
de Tolly was a russian general, who even can be found as a leader in EU2.
And Fabian Steinheil was a count, born in modern day Estonia, then part of Russian empire.

I'd really like to see Finland become a revolter from 1419.

After all, anything that has a chance to make Sweden less powerful rules.

I made Finland a revolter from 1419 and added cores on all the Ugric lands.
I made lots of fictionary monarchs with Finnish sounding names :)D), Errki, Mattis, Jerrko, etc. And I made at least 70 leaders, some with Scandinavian names too, assuming that I would manage to conquer some Scandinavian lands. I started a game as Sweden, released Finland as a vassal, then I remembered I had forgotten Kexholm as Finnish. So I declared war on Finland as Sweden, exited the game and edited the save file, adding Scandinavian culture to Finland. Then I went back and played as Finland, survived the first 10 years of Kalmar (Sweden, Denmark and Norway!) attacks. They had surrounded me too, Norway had been grabbing all the Novgorian lands and made them into a 1 province state. But I got Kexholm and peace after 10 years of fighting, the next decade would be peacefull. Until I declared war on the Kalmar alliance again, after a twenty years war, I had united the Ugric lands (Stockholm had to be sacked too to achieve this) :D

Finland is playable guys, just edit the revolt file, add monarch and leader files. To add monarch and leader files, just copy one of the existing files, open and save as; "leaders.fin" and "monarchs.fin". I suggest opening the armynames files and add some names there too, I don't know any Finnish so I just made names like "Soumi Guard", "Nyland regiment", etc. It would be good if some of you Finns out there could give some better names in Finnish to me, also for leaders and monarchs...

Duuk,

As EU2 is supposed to be a historical one, finnish independence before late 18th century is not at all realistic. And the independence movement in late 18th century was led by some fenno-swedish aristocrats, most of whom probably didn't speak finnish... But a larger post about this issue is on the main discussions, where it more properly belongs, as this ain't a bug, you know. ;)

Yngvar,

I am quite sure that you can find a page in the net with finnish given names and surnames in it. From such a place you can very easily fill up the ranks of finnish leadership.
And considering army names, very few minor countries have unique names for their armies. Only a few majors have army names in the proper language. But if you wish, I can make up some:
"Suomen Armeija" = "Finnish Army"
"Kaartinjääkärit" = "Jaeger Guard"
"Karjalan Komppania" = "Karelian Company"
"Hakkapeliitat" = Finnish troops, who fought in the Thirty Years War and were very feared in Germany ;)

Top-list 2002 of Swedish given names in Finland

Top 50 Finnish family-names in Finland

Top 50 Swedish family-names in Finland

About 10% of Finns speak Swedish as their native language. Both Finnish and Swedish are official langauges in Finland.

The Hakkapeliittas got their name from their opponents during the 30YW. The war cry of the Finnish dragoons was "Hakkaa päälle!" ("Cut them down!"). The war-cry became legendary in Finland too, for example it was used during the Winter-War in close-quarter fights. It is still used during the annual "Finnkampen" (the annual athletics competition between Finland and Sweden), when the roaring "Hakka päälle!" from thousands of people does sound quite impressive :)

What is amusing is that the Hakkapeliterna got their name from their allies, in an attempted propaganda coup, trying to scare their enemies.

Enemy troops were already rather afraid, not because of any rumours, but because the finns fought so silently - too little warcries, hooting and hollering.

But the only catholic sources where finns are mentioned (Hakkapeliters is not a word found in contemporary catholic sources) simply list them as clean and orderly people - thtat in disctrics where finnish trrops are quartered the crimerate is actually reduced, in gross contrast with every other place where plunderers and looters, er, soldiers were quartered.
(I read a review of a book released a year or two ago in the subject matter, but I can remember it's nane :eek:o )

Byakhiam - I say go for it. Sprengtporten would have low adm and diplo rating, being reviled internally and externally as a traitor, maybe get high military by his background.

According to Wikipedia Fredrik becomes Frederik in finnish, do with that as you want.

Dates for governors are here -> http://www.encyclopedia4u.com/g/governor-general-of-finland.html

Well, Fredrik is a tough one, because some places it becomes Fredrik and some places Frederik. I always spell Fredrik as Fredrik, for instance (with the exception of the finnish singer Frederik ;)).

None of these men are finnish by ancestry, so I don't translate their names. Besides, only peasants used finnish in those days.

ROTFLOL! :rofl:
I know only one Frederik, he is a Finnish "singer" who has some sort of an italian-gigolo style. His hit songs include "Titanic" ("I'm gonna ram into you like T-I-T-A-N-I-C") and "Market-spot " ("I'm gonna bang your market-spot") and other similar ones...

I do however know a few by the name Fredrik, so I sure wouldn't go and "translate" that name :)

There are actually quite a few traditional units. These include (in addition to those listed by Byak)

"Savon Rykmentti" = "The Savolax Regiment"
"Porin Rakuunat" = "The Pori/Björneborg Dragoons" (aka "The Hakkapeliittas")
"Vasa Regementet" = "The Vasa Regiment" (this unit has traditionally had Swedish speaking men in it, and does still do so (it's the infantry part of the modern day "Nylands Brigade"))
"Tarkk'ampuja pataljoona" = "The Sharpshooter Battallion" (an elite Battalion during the Russian rule)
"Metsäsissit" or "Sissi pataljoona" = "The Sissi" or "The Forest Sissi" or "The Sissi-battallion" or "The Forest Rangers" (before 20th century usually any ad hoc unit hiding in the forest and making the life miserably to the enemy -> this is the traditional warfare-form of Finns, the forest (especially in the winter) is the best friend and ally :) )

Actually I'd give him dip 1 as a total failure, and adm maximum 3, ignoring that he used to be an ok administrator and looking more at the fact that he had made himself so hated by being seen as a traitor that the Czar had to remove him before even a year had passed.

Actually, since he is so 'short' I'd put him as 1-1-4 in values.
I'd suggest 4-4-8 for Tolly, being minister of war and a Russian gives high mil but lower adm imho.
I agree on Stenheil :)
