Finnish Portugal would be a pretty cool dynamic puppet tag, but I don't think we'd see it often enough to really justify it as anything more than an easter egg.

I base my decision for heavy, light or medium tanks on the question which has cooler sprites. After axis armor pack, I started building spaa, arty and at tanks just to be able to put the Sprite in it.

Portugal as a whole feels like it has suffered a lot from being rushed. Which is understandable in a way. Spain and France took up a lot of dev time and the devs have been good in that they have pushed themselves to get a Portuguese tree added in the first place.

But this has resulted in stuff being left out. For example Portugal didn't actually have a historical path at the time of the DD. With the new historical path only being confirmed in the recent live stream. The portraits and sprite issue is just one that has not been solved. Regarding the sprites it is likely the case that the recon planes and armoured cars ate up most of the dev time.

I think more portraits for Portugal may come post release when they have the time. As for more sprites i doubt we will see anything.

Not sure I would call it rushed. Aside from the issue around the lack of portraits and sprites, the Portuguese content itself looks pretty fleshed out and mature.

It may not have originally had a historical path because it may have been seen as boring. Indeed it also seems like it will play out, from the player's perspective, almost exactly like the democratic option which either has you joining the allies unilaterally, or jointly joining the Axis or Allies together with Spain. I'm glad they did add it though because from a plausibility and roleplay standpoint sticking with Salazar seems the best choice.

The focus looks great and from what I saw in stream it really looks like an interesting country to play, which makes it even sadder that we don't get unique artwork.

Historcially, Portugal used imported British and American tanks. The sprites should be a mix of these.

Honestly im really disappointed that Portugal wont get any unique art for generals or models for infantry, tanks or planes. If Yunnan can get their own infantry models and Yugoslavia can get its own plane models then Portugal should be able to get at least one of these things. I dont know if I speak for the community but I would be more then willing to wait for a little while for them to finish Portugal then having to buy an unfinished product.

Artists spending 6 man hrs on general portraits is nothing compared to a solid NF tree.

the biggest thing in HoI4 is alt history. So your argument is irrelevant

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that people do care.

As for irrelevancy, I hate to be that guy, but Portugal was an important neutral in economic terms during the war. It's not irrelevant, and if Franco had joined the Axis, it might have become a hot zone in the war one way or another.

(And the number of times I've seen Portugal violated in MP indicates that the country is relevant in purely gameplay terms as well.)

Honestly, there should have been time to create Portuguese sprites as Portugal was confirmed last October which means the art team has known that Portugal was possibly going to get sprites. Either, there was a backup on the Spy portraits, Spanish and French portraits, and armored cars or they willfully decided not to do Portugal. Only one of these I think the community is going to weakly accept the other is just spark outrage.

Its been almost an unspoken rule that when a country gets a NF, they get all the art as well. For Portugal to not get sprites and serious level of art, would be strange and need an answer.

Although unique art not showing up in last weekend's stream does not bode well, a lot can happen between last week and two weeks from now when the DLC releases.

I should also remind people that they said they did not have time for a Dutch East Indies infantry sprite before Man the Guns released, but we ended up getting one anyway.

Oh, it's irrelevant? Ah, let's see here.

- Provided Tungsten to the Germans and Allies
- Kept Spain out of the war (Which despite them being shit, the war would take much longer)
- Leased bases to the British (Azores)
- Allowed the USA to use Santa Maria Airport as well

And also, Portugal played a HUGE part in the Spanish civil war. If we got a Spain rework, we'd DAMN well be better getting a Portuguese focus tree because it would make no sense. Portugal sent volunteers, let the nationalists use the port of Lisbon, supplied it with ammunition and logistical resources. They also insisted on to the UK that Franco was gonna copy Salazar's way, which is another reason why Franco was still in control of Spain.

If we didn't get a Portuguese focus tree, then there would be no point of a Spanish tree. Both work together along with the theme so well, there wouldn't be any point.

Also, alternative history. Portugal was a huge allies supporter because of the Anglo-Portugese alliance. This could easily lead to situation wheres Portugal can join the allies in an alt history scenario. With there being a decision to let Portugal join the allies for the U.K. as well in the game!

Point is, portugal needed one if Spain got one. It would be important to any spanish civil war, regardless. if you wanna complain, then we got Mexico to speak to as well. Mexico is worthless, and not needed as much as Portugal, but because of the sweet alt history that can be done with Mexico, along with Latin American Nations imo needing focus trees, I was glad Mexico took the spot.

Hey did we get confirmation of Spanish infantry models as well? Because I feel like thats what Spain is lacking as well. Hell, why the hell does yunnan get their own infantry models? I need answers here.

Honestly, both of the iberian nations feel incomplete to me.

Just to clear up some confusion, 2D Art time has no impact on 3D Art time as they are completely different subsections and skill-sets

Daniel in last week's stream confirmed that Portugal wasn't going to get unit sprites. Although I agree that some art dev should come by and explain this decision.
